Just the 120fps in 720 is cool.
I like that Sony claims it will do exceptionally well in low light. Speaks well for spearing
Like the price too
Any thoughts?

Been looking for a underwater camera for spearing and looked at the liquid image Ego Amazon.com: Liquid Image Ego Series 727W Mountable Sport Video Camera with WiFi (White): Camera & Photo
But it is so new and I cant find the underwater housing...
Jeb your Sony looks much better!! something I have to take a closer look at, not a fan of gopro as any company that sells a product that they know has a problem and then voids the warranty of the product if you fix it? AND then 3 years later bring out their own fix and want to charge you for it?!!! WTF!!! they will never see a cent of my money...call me crazy hahahahahahhahahaah
This looks like a pretty cool camera. I like that it shoots 120 frames per second! One thing I don't like so far is the waterproof housing! Looking at the side view it looks like the lense is a dome. Maybe this is another scheme to have us buy the upgraded flat lense later on. Looks like a good price, and I've always been a fan of Sony. I will probably buy one and review it when I do.
The lens does have a dome shape but that is not what effects the sharpness underwater, it is the shape of the port on the housing that matters. The image here looks like it could be curved on the case too however. Hopefully it's sharp right out of the box. I would definitely go for this for the 120fps in 720p. Kinda wished it took pictures too but I don't see anything about that.
Its a good shape
Here's an alternative to the Gopro Sport HD | Intova
Yup thats the first thing i thought but if its any good, it could always be "the cheaper option" i guess. I wonder if anyone on the forum has ever used one and can give us a review.
intova looks good too...it has a tripod mount, lcd and flat lens all for the included price of 200...not bad at all
I have the intova camera, I think that the video quality is comparable to the gopro, and the fact that it comes with a flat lense is nice. The only thing I don't like about it is the quality and selection of mounting accessories.
Luckily it is just a standard tripod mount so you can rig up a homemade solution quite easily, but the helmet and bar mount I bought for it were the cheapest pieces of crap I have ever paid for.

It shoots 2 mega in JPEG
good info montrey, that is good to know
I've owned two Intovas. Not sure I would buy another.
Other models or this one. What was wrong with them if you don't mind

Not that model. I had a 6mp and a 10mp. The 10mp did not hold up well. The monitor quit working after a few months. Overall picture quality is poor underwater. Video is OK. However, for the price you can't beat it. Make sure you get an extended warranty if its offered.
I like the Sony but I really think the lack of a monitor back is a mistake.

I have both the gopro hero 2 and the sony hdr as15 action cam. The GoPro take better stills but I like the sony better for video. They make a flat lens for the sony too and it makes underwater shots alot better. The sony also comes with a cool mount to hook it to your snorkel. If still pics aren't a priority I would buy the Sony.
Where did you get the flat lens? How much was it. Can you post a pick of how you mount it. I want a reference to see how big it is
Also can you post a vid sample?
I bought flat lens from B & H. It was $50 but it also came with an extra normal lens with a modified audio input. I will post some video as soon as I can but I'm leaving for vacation for 10 day and not sure if I can get to it before. Video quality is slightly better than the Hero 2 but I don't know about the hero 3. I posted that it can mount on your snorkel but I meant to say mask. It latches around the strap. I dove with it last saturday and it didn't bother me at all on the side of my head. One downside to the sony is that once it's inside the waterproof case you can only start and stop and not change any settings unless you have the wifi model you can do it with the sony app. You can find the non wifi model for less than $200 i think.
Thanks
