Paint jobs

  • Hi guys,

Managed to get some old guns I had painted for a fresh look this weekend. I had some leftover Rustoleum, and decided it would be a fun little project.

Gun 1, a 110cm OMER cayman. This one just got a green paint job.

Gun 2, a 120cm 8 year old beat to hell wood gun, blue paint. This gun I reshaped a bit, ballasted it better by adding lead to the front and gave it new paint. I know some of you will think it blasphemous to paint a wood gun as opposed to let the wood grain do the talking, but really I was tired of it, and it wasn't particularly special to look at anyway.

    Anyways, enjoy the pics.

  • Looks good mate, but if you put that in the boot of a old car you'll never find it again.;)

  • Looks good man. Was the paint alreay speckled like that or did you do that?

Caused the speckles myself. Thought it added a nice touch. Makes a hell of a mess though.

  • i would do a few coats of clear on top
    phil

Phil, I added a few layers of clear coat to the wood gun as an extra seal/protection, but didn't really think it would that beneficial to add to the aluminum gun. The way it was painted, any area that needs touching up, can easily be touched up with a can of spray paint...

Belizeman, I used can of Rustoleum spray paint. there are only $3 and change a piece, and allow you to cover quite a large area...

Judah, I first put down a solid base, then add some accent areas, and then add the splatter effect to blend everything more by not fully depressing the nozzle, this lets the paint sort of sputter out. Messy but effective.

  • Cool. I have zero skill with a spray can. Hahaha. All my vandalism was done in other ways.

    What colors did you use?
How did you determine the scheme? I only ask because I know you are a design guy.

I am going to paint my 120. Any reason not to tape the track and avoid any paint getting in?

Judah, I have a bunch of paint left over, if you want to give it a shot, feel free to swing by and help yourself to it. I have a few blues, few greens, few browns and some yellow and sand type colors, oh and silver, which adds a really cool reflective element to it all. As for the scheme? I just winged it. Tried it on some scrap first, was happy and did something similar on the real thing...

As for the track, I don't think it needs to be taped, it seems fine, but I guess I'll find out soon enough when I get into the water.

  • Its as if Jackson Pollock was into spearfishing.

Nice splatter job. Ive done a few and its definitely an art. Those paint jobs look awesome. :thumbsup2:

  • Awesome. You have plans on Sunday? Maybe a dive and then some arts and crafts?

Sounds good to me. Lets see how this storm will stir things up. If the winds/vis work out, we could hit up Haulover and then do some crafts afterwards... Anybody want to join, they are welcome.

  • Well Gerald worked his magic on my rob Allen 120. I said I wanted it to look like a bull mahi, all lit up and angry

He killed it. Amazing fade from yellow to blue green. Lots of silver in there too

I love the camo with my house wall hahahaha. You can only see shadow haha
