Take me there and I'll teach you how to deal with sharks...
Dan needs to post a shark snip-it from Blue Water Hunter, I would... but don't want to get spoken too.;)
Cheers, Don

Go diving with guys on a boat. As soon as you get a fish, throw it on the boat. That's what we do here.
I don't carry them on a stringer.
I have been in the water with gray reef sharks in the Philippines. We were spearing fish. Yes, they have attitude for their size but it wouldn't stop me from diving where you're going. Don't dwell on them.
You will see them in conditions where the current is coming in at 90 degrees to a wall. In the Philippines this is what we try to time when diving spots. This is when the dogtooth tuna come, giant trevally, and....gray reefs. We used to scuba dive a spot to take tourists to see gray reefs during these conditions. Only once did a guy have a shark get a little too aggressive but he was trying to get real close to photo it. The gray reef is territorial.
It will be interesting to see how much fish are there. With the Japanese in the area I would bet that it's heavily fished. There are very few places that aren't. Also, that is a bombing practice area for the US military. You may have a lot of ciguatera there due to reef damage. The dinoflagellate that produces the toxin is like the lichens that first grow on a new lava flow. This is why those islands with US airstrips had lots of Ciguatera after WW2. The US dynamited reef to get material for building the airstrips.
Great share, thanks for info

Def try to get some local knowledge. The potential for currents and cig are really bad news if you don't know the spots.
am i better off going with a polespear or a gun? the break down polespear would be MUCH easier to transport.
Gun. Polespear is a lifestyle choice.
I hunt Bison with my .300 wm and Elk with my PSE bow, so as it may seem, im not dedicated to the style as much as the hunt. You are aware of where im headed, and not so much interested in the deep blue off the coral......if i stay in the lagoon, would one be a better choice than the other or strictly preference? I do have to say as much as i like the range of the gun, i do like the stalk of the polespear.....I am only asking because my lack of experience. Thanks
I would go with a 110 single band and flopper shaft as all the locals and guys on R+R will have the fish in the lagoon staying just out of pole spear range. You will have a blast stalking nice Parrot fish and soldier fish.
Cheers, Don
For the records: I tried a polespear on a trip to Bimini and could't get a fu..ing fish! Probably has to do with my divig style but couldn't relax with it loaded and when I managed to relax, it was shooting out of my hand.
A "lifestyle" choice....hah. Kind of like being a longboarder....soul surfer. Nice one Judah. :thumbsup2::D
Hey Fellas, finally made it, after four planes and one helicopter ride, here are some pics of where we're at. Wound up going with a 7' Gat-Ku, figured i'd start the primitive form with the polespear first then graduate into a gun at a later date. No kidding, not there an hour and saw the first shark....Nurse Shark?? about 4'
