Antigua spearfishing reports

Well done George. Those are huge rainbow runners. For me one of the best fish to eat, the meat looks so clean. Maybe just an illusion because of how nice they look on the outside.
-
Thanks Dan the 11 lb'er is my personal best. Had to fight off a very aggressive barracuda the same size as the rainbow runner to keep it intact!
-
Interesting, the same thing happened to me when I shot a nice rainbow runner. Barracuda was acting unusually persistent/aggressive. I swear it was looking at me and measuring me. I really wanted to kill it but was unloaded. It did manage to take half the fish.

Got into the blue today, my camera broke so no underwater video.
The water was teaming with hundreds upon hundreds of small mahi mahi, couldn't bring myself to shoot the peanuts. Lots of small very shy wahoo as well, shot one small one only to have a small shark take its tail off [emoji20] As always I was in the water alone while my buddies trolled, tied the 3/4 wahoo to the FAD and continued to hunt, managed to dive deep following some huge rainbow runners and managed to secure two, 11.7 and 10.2 respectively. The hook and line boys loaded up with small wahoo and a couple of decent mahi mahi.Badeh....nice. :thumbsup2:

Dan that's exactly how I felt! Exactly! They seem to have a real hard on for those rainbow runners.

Marco wasn't going to post this here as it is hook and line, but I know how you like the yellow fin
Yellowfin taken by my team at the first jigging and chunking tournament in Antigua. And some bycatch in the cooler
I am now convinced that the only time the yellowfin over 100lbs show up is when they know I am not allowed to spear! I am very confident that I would have shot a 120-150 lb monster Saturday -
Bloody pictures won't upload!

Looking to hunt wahoo tomorrow so went on reef dive looking for barracuda for chum, even though the water had 5 foot visibility! [emoji22] Missed two decent barracuda because of the unbelievably bad vis but I persevered. The spot is only 35 foot deep but in 5ft vis it seems to take forever to reach the bottom, and once there giant tarpon suddenly brushing up on you really exercises the butt hole muscles [emoji1], not to mention killing bottom time! Speaking of bottom time for last few months I have been struggling, averaging 45 seconds where the average used to be 1:30 [emoji20]... anyway, today it all came back! 1:30 average and a solid 2min bottom time landing that 12lb mutton in 35, can't tell you the relief that my slump is over! Stoned both the fish I shot, so all round happy hour in the water. JC that same gun buddy [emoji6]
