Well, it's been a looooong time coming but here we go. My RIB's (Rigid Inflatable Boat's) maiden Voyage. After 4 months of rebuilding the motor and repairing holes on the Hypalon between dives(I've had that leisure time lately), we were ready to go....well...sort of..

Wow, it looks new! You painted it. Big congrats. Can't wait to see some reports of the performance, I've been toying with the idea of a RIB myself for a while now. Is repairing holes in hypalon much easier than PVC? What kind of paint did you use for the motor? Do you expect it to not chip off?
-
Yes...I went from a long shaft to a short shaft...it's easy to go the other way around since many kits are available but to go to a shorter shaft I had to have the drive shaft cut and welded....oh, and the pinion gear had to be redone since it was missing 2 teeth (keep that in mind). Total cost of engine/labor/parts...$300.00..not too bad...so I thought.

Bear with me Dan...:D

The paint is the least of my worries right now...
I plannned on testing the RIB with Anthony (anthonysub) this morning being that we both found out that our GF's were expecting:0....Yeah...that's right fellas! His GF is 6 weeks pgnt. and mine is 5!...must have been the moon phase....Anyways, with so much in mind, he called me at 7:45a.m. (he was expected here at 8:00 a.m.) to tell me he would not be able to make it because he had just totaled his truck....really...no BS!...I saw it and towed it!
-
Anyways, as we were both feeling shitty and out of luck, he told me that he still wanted to go out and test the RIB. I agreed at an instant, so off we went. The weather was a bit windy but nice at the Bay so we launched, powered up and were under way!!!!!
-
The breeze blew through our hair as we slowly put all worries aside and smelled the fresh ocean scent!
-
We were wrapped up in the moment and wanted more!....more...more!!!! So I revved it up full speed and heard an awful grinding noise...the lower case pinion gear...remember?....yes...it gave out and we were Castaways for about an hour or more!:angry5:
-
Anyways....we're back now...safe and sound....no fish to show....oh yeah...and two pregnant GF's to "welcome" us home.:D
-
Go at it now guys!
-
aw man, that is rough...at least you are making small steps towards a nice craft.
congrats on the bun in the oven

After the above narrative, did you guys get a room:D. First what is all this talk of short "shafts" and long "shafts", then a breeze running through your hair?:hi:. Oh...no..wait. I get it. Valentine's Day is Saturday. I did not know you guys celebrate it in :puertorico:.
In any event, I like the RIB. Let us know how it works out and how many fish it brings on board. I still remember "our" maiden voyage: http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=27624&highlight=%22Maiden+Voyage%22
Alrighty, I'm off to revel in my back porch and reminisce about the days long past as a cool February breeze penetrates my follicles and sets my realities aside as I smell the fresh Gardinias getting ready to blossom come spring...:imgay:.
Good job on the boat:D:thumbsup2:
