My 2c, I like to wear 2 knives, in case one get wrapped up, dropped or becomes hard to get to for whatever reason.
I also carry a waterproof rescue whistle on a lanyard on my neck. I find the sound carries farther and is easier to sustain than screaming for the boat. A 406 epirb and waterproof vhf are good ideas for any vessle

Never ever dive without at least one knife. The sharper the better, serrations are a big plus. One handed deployment is best. Your life could depend on it

I wear two knives as well, one on outside of calf and other in my belt...recently only wear the calf knife because my idiot buddy snagged me while trolling to close to me as i was diving, lost my belt knife while cutting the F'in line dragging me backwards through the water!! Slingador is sooooo right about knives!!

Thank DudeE! I have played around with placement and have settled on one on each inside calf. I feel the inside position is a bit more streamlined, less likely to hang up and easier to get at with both hands. Its does seem like a matter of personal taste though. I have often wondered about this choice and what benefits other configuration provide. I use the older of the 2 for tasks and keep the newer sharper one as backup, hence less likely get lost. A good bungee lanyard helps keeping track of it while dispatching fish

Lots of friends slingador do the inside method for the reasons you stated, but I like the outside for its ease of unsheathing. I have to rig up a bungee for my knives, silly I haven't gotten around to it!

I haven't done it yet, but I'm planning on carrying a set of shears as well as my knife. If you DO get entangled in net or something they cut much faster than a knife.
-
And are good for lion fish.
-
How would you carry the shears?
-
I don't plan to get tangled in ANYTHING. So I carry my knife in my belt.
-
Thats a great idea, thanks to this thread, im gona add these to the side of my belt;) will try to strap it horizontal.
And one of these either on the other side of the belt or maybe forearm or gun butt.
http://www.k2scuba.com/product_description.php?category=4&sub_cat=87&product=496I dont think anyone plans on getting tangled, but believe me, its Scary as hell and often happens at the worst possible moment.

Zeagle EMT Scissors 8134 with reviews at scuba.com
A lot of scuba divers...I think mostly DIR divers.... carry these. The problem with a knife is that no matter how sharp it is when you start the dive, it will dull incredibly fast when you cut monofilament line with it. I used to patch a lot of monofilament net when I lived in Hawaii and we would start with a brand new razor blade. Only a couple cuts and the edge is gone. Shears work way better.

Hank throw up an example of what you have in mind, if you can
-
I found the easiest way to Cary the EMT scissors is on a D ring on your belt. I put a bungee loop on one of the scissor finger holes. I run the bungee threw the D ring then pull the loop over the point of the scissors.

Ahhhh, now where can I buy um online Hank? [emoji4]

Try the amazon link in my previous post;) im gona order a pair also. Im gona try mounting the sheath to my belt, since I preffer not to have stuff attached, dangling from my body. But thats just me. I also favor the quick release style buckle for my weight belt.

George, the link I posted shows some from a dive shop. This is what I have at home. I can adapt them to a knife sheath with some bungee. These shears but fishing line all day. Self sharpening.

And you can pop a cold one with them too. :thumbsup2::cool2:

I bought those here in Belize in a hardware store. I just adapted an old knife sheath but still need to add a piece of bungee to hold them snug in the sheath. I guess I'll wear it on my belt.
Knives are for braining and gutting fish.
And I use these to cut spear bands when I'm making them. "Snip" done.

Missing one piece. Cooler or fish bag for your catch
