Hello from San Diego

  • Yes yes, another new member from San Diego on the board. I started in San Diego around 2 years ago and have been going very sparingly lately and hope to meet others who are willing to go out. Mainly do shore dives off La Jolla and still working on my breathing. I am currently sporting two guns, Riffe Competitor #3 and a gently used vintage Riffe Standard #4 from 1994 that I am trying to get rid of in turn for something smaller. Ideally a Riffe Euro Traveler that I would plan to use on vacation trips. I'm going to need something smaller for those tight kelp patties.

Looking for more folks to go out with within the area. I know now it is somewhat choppy, but looking to go out elsewhere besides La Jolla..... I hear a lot of North County, Mission Jetties and the islands around Coronado, but have never had the group to go out in that area. I also just recently purchased Malibu X-13 fish and dive kayak that I have been meaning to get to use as well, but unfortunately am having trouble transporting that thing since it is so huge and cannot lift up myself. In the process of trying to find a trolley to move this thing (or even build one) out of my place and into my truck.

Avid drinker and would love to have a couple of beers and fish sometime.

  • Avid drinker that wants to fish a little or Avid fisherman that wouldn't mind a few beers? either way welcome. be safe

  • Welcome. I've hunted La Jolla, Children's Pool and had great success especially with opal eyes, sheepshead, and calico bass. Check with the Lifeguard station. Last time I dove Childrens' Pool the head life guard invited me to paddle out with them for an early morning kayak hunt out past the paddies for yellowtail. I can't remember his name but I know he hunts there and is cool about sharing info. I was there with my sons a year ago and we were running an intro to freediving and Spearfishing session for some youth that wanted to learn. The head lifeguard (I want to say his name is John?) approached me and we talked story about his diving spots and he invited me for that early morning dawn patrol hunt the following day. Pretty cool for him to do that.

    Good luck.
