    New to diving, plan to be diving off the coast of California north of the Golden Gate. Just got all my gear sorted out, looking forward to diving for abalone this season. Let me know if you think I got some decent gear

    You could always use a bodyboard in the meantime- pretty functional with only a few mods. A dive float and float line would be a good purchase- usually the only way a dive buddy can keep track of someone's location with marginal vis. And a dive light.

    Ended up making it out to stillwater cove on the 4th and the conditions were terrible, I didn't let it get me down cause I saw people pulling some good size abs, went back yesterday and got my first two abalone, one was a good 8 3/4" and the other was about 7 1/12, couldn't be happier for my first time out!


    Oh, and I got ahold of a banks board!
