If anyone wants to get together for a dive or surf the wife and I are gonna be staying in Rincon and then at Shack's Beach starting Jan 28th for a couple weeks for vacation. Hope to surf, dive, catch a snook, and drink some beers. Gimme a shout on here if anyone wants to meet up. Thanks!

Look at that smile haha. How pumped is he? went out hoping to shoot a 2lb sheepshead and came back with a giant wahoo! What a cool story for him

THat's awesome! One of these years I'm gonna make it out that way to hunt flooded timber Mallards. I need to hit up the skeet range this fall too
-
Steven, you should try duck hunting if you are still out that way during the season. Supposed to be some of the best in the US

I haven't mastered the chest loading yet but getting better at it. Cant wait to see/use my new gun the Phantom the anticipation is kinda killing me.
Just make sure to grab the bands with an overhand grip. I think that is the most common mistake people make when trying to load a rear handled speargun.

What about mounting it to a loop of webbing using really short small bolts and fender washers. Then you could use a fastex clip or quick release of some sort to connect/disconnect the reel from your belt. When it is disconnected you can hang on to the reel with the webbing loop keeping the line far away from your body as you ascend.
-
Red Tide, have you tried using a belt reel as a backup?

THe stock shafts on the two speargun choices that you listed are junk. So in the short, you're gonna be spending more $on a new shaft after the first rock you accidentally hit. If you're gonna get into spearfishing you may as well buy a decent gun with a decent South African shaft. Rob Allen 70 or 80cm or Speardiver in the same size would be a great choice for low vis shore diving. If you get something different you're gonna want to upgrade sooner than later. So by spending 50 or so more bucks now you're actually saving yourself $$ haha. Have fun up there!

It looks as if one was designed by a diver (Speardiver Phantom) and the other by a clueless Chinaman looking to line his pockets with your silky-luscious-tasty-hard-earned-delicious USD (Phantom Pro)... choose wisely young grasshopper.

Just cover your body with vaseline. The vaseline keeps you warm and fish think that you are a jellyfish.
-
Diving murky water I wear a white rashguard. I still get fish, and it's easy for my buddies to see my fat ass.
-
I count my breaths. Never dive on an odd number haha
-
That thing looks super cool. I'd like one to use while surfing. You could anchor it out, fish, and have a beer or three while waiting for a set wave. Kinda pricey though. I could come up with a redneck rig that would work just as well. Very slick rig though

Oceanic Shadow. Before that it was the Cressi Big Eyes and Omer Alien. The Shadow is low enough volume, the field of vision is great, and it doesn't press on your brow at all. I have a beard and it doesn't usually leak with it so that's a big plus as well.

NIce job on the Mu fish. Such a hard fish to shoot. When I was on Oahu I tried sooooo hard to get one. They ain't having it haha. Same dub song as your video... another good one....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wATBX_tNyUw

It sucks so bad to read this. I can only imagine how devastated Nate's family is. I loved reading his posts on this forum. His duck hunting thread was actually my favorite thread on this forum. I'm done with the dream of deep diving for trophy fish. There is just too many threads just like this one. Life is too short and too fragile. Rest in Peace Nate.
