A few gun build pics

  • Hey guys, a few people have mentioned that they wanted me to put up a few pics of some of the work I've done lately in some of my gun builds. I have a few pics here of the last few guns I've done and one that I'm currently working on, i would be uploading pics for hours if i put all the pics up but will put some of the better pics up and add some along the way. Feel free to add your own custom build pics up in this thread as well if you like.

I'm also just planning out a new gun to build now which i should get a start on very soon and i will start a thread for it once i get going. As some of you might already know i just had pretty nasty accident involving a router recently so as soon as I'm fit and well i will get back into things and start a thread with a new project gun.

Looking forward to adding many more pics and details up as time goes by and hopefully getting a few ideas off everyone along the way.

    Cheers,

    Brett

  • Bretto---those are some beautiful pictures of some beautiful guns. Very nice work :thumbsup2:

Nasty looking fingers though, you need to buff them up or something :rolleyes1:
Glad that the GUN is ok
Serously, wish you a speedy and full recovery bro :)

  • wow man...excellent stuff..

I really enjoyed the first gun and the metal piece for the front is very cool..I also like the grooveds out area for the bands to lay in the third gun.

how did you clear out the shape for the inlay after you exactoed out the pattern...very very cool

thanks for sharing and heal well

    i like to spear fish

  • Cheers everyone, much appreciated!

Your atention to detain is obvious Bretto. Would you mind posting how you polish up all your stainless pieces? Are you just using a buffing wheel, or something else?

Tin Man for the polishing i just usually sand the stainless smooth with a linisher machine and then spend a bit of time on the buffing wheel. I use jewelers wax to rub on the buffing wheel and that seems to give a very good result and buffs a lot quicker.

Thanks LunkerBuster, here is a copy and paste from my post in another thread on how i done the work to insert the inlays...

I temporarily tack glued the inlay to the stock and very carefully traced around with the Xacto knife to get a nice out line of the Tuna

I set the depth on the trimmer and carefully routed as much as i could of the inside of the tuna trying get as close as i could without chipping any corners away

Once i routed as much as i could i then used the Xacto knife again to carve around the edges bit by bit and got the smallest little flat blade screw driver i could find and used it as a chisel and chipped away at it piece by piece.

    End result...

  • Bretto, your guns are really elegant , neat and beautiful. That shell tuna is a gorgeous detail. The other feature that is great is the handle. The red color of the wood, makes it look unreal. Awesome work.

  • Glad your hand is healing Brett, Your work is beautiful . It's a real asset to have you here, thanks for taking the time to post your fine craftsmanship mate.:thumbsup2:

  • Thanks again for all the complements guys :)

Beautiful. What about the tuna itself, did you make that as well? Seems to me it would take as much work as the whole gun.

I get a guy to make the inlays for me Dan, i imagine it would be very tedious work making them! The quality of these inlays are amazing and a lot of work goes into making them!

Wasn't sure where to post this so thought I'd put it up in this thread... I went back to the hospital to see the doc about the fingers early this morning and he said its all healing very well so it's looking good at this stage!

Since i was feeling so good i started carefully knocking up the frame work for the new router table to help prevent any more router injury's in the future. I will probably have a play around with fitting out the top section tomorrow if i get a chance. It's going to be a pretty basic setup but will do the job nicely once it's finished.

  • Ahhh Come on Brett, you didn't use Australian Lace Wood for the bench ?:D
    Glade your on the heal.:thumbsup2:

haha you really like your Lace wood don't you Don :D I will use Lace wood in one of the next guns i do, once the hand is all healed and i have finished off the latest gun I'm working on... So stay tuned ;)

  • Ended up doing a bit more work on the router table and it is now finished and ready to go! I decided to put a couple more supports in the middle section of the base to support the weight of the router. I added in two fence/guides on either side so it has a duel setup option so you can lock them both into place and feed the timber through with no movement for error, works brilliantly! Also secured the removable top by countersinking four bolts with wing nuts. The only other thing i plan to do later on is add a shelf onto the bottom supports for storage etc. It's been a fun little build and hopefully the pics can help out a few other gun builders out there that want to give it a go. Time to go and put it to use ;)
