My 2nd roller gun

  • I'm no gun builder but I love roller guns so much, I enlisted the help of Bubba and Ken H to help me build my second roller. My first was a single action 48" roller that I made from a cut down Deathstick.

This is a custom enclosed track 57" double action roller, Wong/Aimrite trigger mech, Deathgrip handle, RA reel, Neptonics line hardware.

It shoots like a laser with almost zero recoil. I made 2 -19" bands tied in with 2 wishbones. I can't load it to the third bottom loading tab, so I'm going to make some longer bands.

    Here are the pics:

  • Cool gun mate, but what does the ET do on a single band gun? I don't believe the shaft is whipping with the long, smooth duration of thrust. I know the bubble freeshaft guys don't want their shaft dropping out while a AJ trys to kiss them on the reg, but I believe your a freediver.

  • Dan,
Its a double action roller. Once I load the top wishbone onto the shark fin, I flip the gun over and load the bottom wishbone on one of two further loading tabs. The second gives a 3.5:1 band stretch, and the further one gives over a 4:1 band stretch (which I can't load yet).

Don, as far as enclosed track, I don't have an answer. I started as a scuba guy and tended to overpower my wood guns. So all my guns are wood with enclosed tracks. And I have 7 guns currently.

  • Thanks Chuck, that's a lot of ET. I would leave the band length as you have them, you will develop the strength to cock the last anchor before you know it. Nice gun.

  • Lol.
It's not me Don. I haven't found a gun I couldn't load, including my Wong MGS and my 67" Sea Sniper.
I really think the wishbones or bands will pop before it reaches the 3rd loading notch on this gun.
Its the wishbones I'm worried about. I'll try it next time out.

  • Chuck, what is the hole size inside the band? What brand rubber is it? I know a guy like you can cock 3/4 to 300% elongation. Plus the band will tame a little in time, just leave it cocked for the day and stretch out that water time.;):D

  • It's my go to gun for reef and wreck hunting. I can load light for hogfish and even AJs. Then I'll load medium or heavy for grouper with good vis. And heavy for wrecks in case a Cubera or wary AP/permit/Cobia shows up.

It's a 5/8" standard band. The middle tab is 350% stretch and the rear tab is around 400% band pull. It's a 57" gun and shaft that has a butt extension that I hip load. But it has a 43" band throw length.

  • Your gun is very well, which shaft you use?

You've walked through the Rollers Italian, Spanish? There are lots of interesting information.

    good fishing

  • i really like this gun..it is very practical withthe variable loading power...i find that the idea of adjusting the power on a band gun is rarely used as it is hard to add or unload a band when the fsh shows up...

this gun is more condition specific so you go in ready...i like that

    i like to spear fish

  • Very smooth. I'm also interested in seeing how you load the gun. If the gun is unloaded is the band always loose at the front like that?

When unloaded, there is friction on the bands from the rollers. I put the lower wishbone on the 1st loading tab and pull the top wishbone a little to hold it there.

Then I hip load the top wishbone to the sharkfin.

Then if I want more power, I flip the gun over and hip load the bottom wishbone back to the 2nd or 3rd loading tabs.

I'm using a single wrap and it locks out the single wrap on all three notches.

  • I really love this design. I am a Carp hunter here in MI and I think a shortie/mid-handled with rollers would be a real good option for my waters. Do you happen to have any additional close-ups or detailed pics of the set up? Many thanks~
