Finished Intermediate Performance Freediving course

  • Thats impressive. Black I see your located in Boca. Where exacty did you take this course. I am located in Coral Springs and would love to take a course like that.

  • Hau, I cant say exactly, but, roughly $755 to $800, $695 for the class and 3 boat trips around $25 for boat. Personally I found the class well worth it especially the physiology of freediving and what happens to the body, Kirk is a fantstic speaker and explains alot to you and the rescue safety saving drills are excellent to know for diving with others. The class is a fun class and I believe you will take away from it what is important to you as a spearo, some may disagree, but, truth is only you can say what is important for you.

  • I won a free PFI intermediate class at the BLue Wild last month. I'm taking the class in August if you guys want to do it together that'd be really cool!!! We should all do it hau!

    Outstanding freediving
    Be safe

[I'm with LB. Someday I'll be able to take the course.]

BTW Is there an age limit for Level 2? I'm 58 last week.

    Happy Birthday Hau.

  • No age limit. Take the class. I'm sure you will learn something useful especially the safety part.

    GL Don :thumbsup2:

  • I took the intermediate class with PFI as well back in February. For me it was well worth it because my experience with freediving techniques basically consisted of everything I had read from the internet.

I have used "their" one up one down technique with a friend that also took the course when we are diving in deeper water. It is a comfortable feeling knowing the person you are diving with is on the surface watching and knows what to do if you potentially get in trouble.

Some people knew to do this without the course...I simply never gave it much thought previously, but I was never pushing my self either...

  • No age limit ,just have to be healthy.
It's a lot of fun and you can see how deep you really can dive. These guys are right- it is not necessary but if they actually took a course they would be better divers having done so.I find it interesting that those who have not taken a course are the first to criticize. What do they know? Darryl Wong took the course and he found it beneficial- not exactly an inexperienced diver.
I ascribe to a different philosophy in regards to freediving than PFI or FII but for spearfishing it is a fun way to learn some great stuff. I don't think you would regret it.

  • Hey Don,
why don't you come down to the Blue Hole and as a present to yourself, dive your age- 58m? or PFI has a class in Cayman where you can dive that deep. Most of the other classes aren't set up for those depths.Cayman is nice but you can't hunt there unless you are a local with ancient equipment.;)

The only way I'm going to 58m is if I drop my gun and am not smart enough to pull out of the dive.
At least I'll be going for it, but you better be there to shoot me in the fin at 190 and swim me up.;)

I would fit in very well with the Cayman kids, and I do have ancient equipment in great shape.
Hunting is something I can do without as long as a have a camera and the water is warm and clear.
One of the prime reasons I would do a class is to surround my self in deep blue water and look up.

I was actually invited to Pipini's first class in San Diego but my deep diving friend from Switzerland begged me to go instead. He took the class and on every dive trip would make sure he dove deeper then me whether fish were there or not. I told him to take it easy we had nothing to prove among friends. I also told Alex never to train alone in the pool. A month later my friends in South Africa sent word he was found alone sitting on the bottom of a pool the next day without a pulse.

I only bring this up to stress that any diver with the wrong motives that fails to listen to his teachers
is a dead diver. No 5 day class makes you a deep diver

I have never dove over 105' shooting fish but I have manged to stay alive for 30 years of blue.
Someday though I want slide down that rope in warm blue water to 190' and see what its like.
    Cheers, Don

  • No living out of hotels and eating out every night gets old.

Traveling Around Drunk was what my friends called it but have no personal experience in that field
