some fish tank photos

  • ive been procrastinating a while but heres some tank photos.. i got all kinds of excuses the glass had salt on it i havnt scraped algea blah blah blah
its not so aestethic like a lot of reef tanks but its a pretty goot representation of a realistic bottom setting i think,, a lot of local stuff and a few nonnatives mixed in (i cant help it i work in a marine aquarium shop)

the leopard wrasse wondering wtf is up with the camera, this is my only fish but hes a b.a and is considered very hard to keep alive (casue they usually wont eat) i have to feed him prawn eggs and other over the top garbage)

a gorgonian(sea fan) alot of you florida guys are probably used to seeing, and if your lucky seeing a hogfish down in it.. this requires a lot of food becasue it is not solely photosynthetic like a lot of the corals are

a hawaiian blue leg hermit crab (its an asshole and one of the few non local inhabitants of the tank)
next to him is a local hermit (one of the few local species of hermit that doesnt tear everything apart)

a porcelain crab,, in the camera its not easy to see but it has two nets instead of mandibles that it uses to filter feed from the open water, it eats basically what the seafan does. also it has a commensual relationship with the blue discosoma mushroom its sitting on. things avoid the mushroom and therefore it gets protection

briarium,, another local soft coral that is really common on south florida reefs

  • Nice purple coralline algae, I just sold my 250 reef tank after 30 years, must be nice to be able to have local
corals. I used to have to start mine from frags. I don't miss the electric bill from 4 250 watt metal halides.:@
very nice tank thanks for posting.
    Cheers, Don

To bad I didn't know you last year I had to fill a large dumpster with protein skimmers and gear.
When you want to sell it to move no one wants it. I had a 250 predator tank and a 250 hard coral with
1hp chiller. I built a lot of fun stuff and maintained them my self. My kids baseball is my gig now.:thumbsup2:

  • the bio load thing is fish obviosuly create crap and piss.. which initially is ammonia, then is broken down to nitrite and nitrate, and someetimes phosphates.. the result from all that is algea, limited coral health etc etc.. one fish only eats enough and breaks down enough to put a mminor strain on the tank.. i dont run filters.. the water jsut pours into a bin of rock and macroalgea which processes the waste. and the water is then pumped back into the tank

Yeah I know it's not solely photosynthetic, it feeds mainly on lip and cheek tissue as materializes out of nowhere to sting while you're shoulder deep in a hole reaching after a pesky bug.

Damn, I would've gladly driven south to take that off your hands...

then again, not having a tank has saved me countless hours/days/weeks of time.

  • Sweet tanks!!!!

My brother had a 125 and 300 gal up until last year. It was pretty cool finding stuff at the marina and bringing it home, coolest find was a baby octopus, about the size of your thumb.:D

  • mariner-octopus are by far the coolest thing to have,, theyre smarter than most people i know,,
judah the tanks a 75 gallon its 48".. i used to have a couple but to be honest like having more than one tank u get this creepy bill nye the science guy image going and say good bye to ever gettin any chick with that going on,,. also im lookin at movin into a dorm within the next year so ill either have no tannk or jsut keep like a little 20 gallon

  • we got this fish in at work and as much as i hate adding anything hes just such a B.A. its called a maori wrasse and its like a mini tropical pacific version of our hogfish.(same family) you can see in the dif. pics always changin colors and he flashes between white speckled and deep red whenever theres food or hes spooked or anything. its crazy similar for a fish thats two oceans away
