Shooting macs, whats the trick?

  • When they are doing circles around me checking me out it's as easy as point and shoot.

When they freak and start swimming away ad dive down fast and take off behind them with fast smooth kicks. At some point they will slow and turn to one side for a better look at you and BAM!!!

Macks and my favorite fish to shoot.

    Edit.
Ahh I see I should have watched the video first. They say the same thing I did about don't stop swimming behind them and they will turn and give you a shot.

That guys voice. I couldn't get passed the whole which gun thing.

  • Monster slayer--that is the most compressed informative mac video that I've seen
this video should a GREAT help to anyone wanting to score more macs :)
    thank u for shareing sir:toast:

I love that vid Hau, I´m stoked knowing you liked it!! The accent of the guy is funny but is really nice, makes things look easier than they are.

  • I was contacted by the makers of that vid to sell their full DVD, the one they're promoting at the end. I liked it, but I got too many things going on to go into video sales right now. It would sell for $25, there's not much markup as you can imagine, would anyone be interested in buying it?

    I do.

Have you noticed that all the advice that you said from experience is allready in the vid, like chasing the "cuta" great vid.

  • Yeah the vid is nice. Thouse macs are huge compared to the ones we shoot.
I would imagine it would be easier getting a shaft on those guys.

  • The Spanish Mackerel you see in the vid is Scomberomorus commerson http://www.fishbase.org/summary/Speciessummary.php?id=121 not the same as our little Scomberomorous maculatus http://indian-river.fl.us/fishing/fish/mackspan.html Although similar hunting styles may work for both fish.

Now I know where you got the idea that you need a 130cm gun to take them Brian. I have good success with mackerels, always with solid mid body shots, a 110-115cm gun does just fine.

I agree with the above. You could do alot with a smaller gun. I use a riffe x3s or something I forget what they're called. From bluewater to shoredives.

Now I have taken my seasniper 130 enclosed track on a fee shore dives and hated life. 130 is just way to long when you could get somewhat near the fish in our waters in SoFL.

  • I consider Hau :hau: the cero mackerel killer...it's it me or every time he go out he kills one..you might want to get some advice from him :thumbsup2: I rather shoot bigger ones because i love the fight. The small ones are little challenge...but they will help you develop a big trust in your shooting style once you get used to shooting those cero macks. Good Luck
