• Hey everyone,

I'm doing the required introduction, not a bad idea:toast: I see some familiar screen names and some new ones.........here goes.

I am a native San Diegan, been in the ocean since diapers. I have been hook n line fishing all my life (mostly freshwater but some salt as well). I used to dive with my pops and a polespear as a kid but got into serious freedive spearfishing about 6-7 years ago. I usually dive So.Cal, the islands near (when I can catch a ride), and baja when I can get away from the family.

I shoot the usual WSB, YT, halibut, and calicos here in So.Cal and the usual suspects in baja. I have a 10ft. inflatable and kayak for diving the kelp and I still like to shore dive as well.

    Here's a little about me:
    1. Teacher
    2. Married with two little girls
    3. Addicted to spearfishing
    4. Play rugby for OMBAC (just won the a national championship this past season)
    5. I surf
    6. Getting into Jiu-Jitsu as a replacement for rugby (I'm getting too old and the body hurts)

  • Welcome to the forum.

In Jiu Jitsu watch out for the strong new guys when you choose partners to roll with, they're the ones that are all gung ho and rough, and will make you hurt yourself.

:laughing3: funny you say that, I am "that guy" right now. I am learning the slow lesson of patience and technique vs. trying to use muscle. My little brother is the one getting me into it, he has helped me tremendously with the learning curve. It is a beautiful art form and very humbling to say the least.

Thanks for the welcome, I look forward to using the site.

  • Welcome, what topic do you teach ? I just decided to quit sparring at my local cage when I had a young
pro girl fighter go 3 rounds.... I hurt for three weeks and had a very hard time punching her in the face,
or nailing her with hard kicks. I have lost it and stick to just personal self defense and Tai Chi.

We have a lot of fun here and have a more secure place for local fish story's.
    Cheers, Don Paul
