Whatever has to be done! I just want to spear while I am there. That's why I was asking about that Ray Oder you have.

  • I can loan you a gun.

Sweet deal man. I will certainly let you know if I can once I hear something. We have several lab/trip meetings before then so lots of time. Can't help but be stoked though.

  • FINALLY!!! Clean water.
I took some guests....business associates of the boss out on Wednesday. North winds and waves and wet for the 14 mile ride out. But, the Gods are fair.....I was taking them around in shallow water due to very little experience in the sea. I saw this one little (3 lb) dog pass under me in only 12 feet of water. I dropped down to the bottom and was cruising after it a bit and out of the corner of my right eye, his big brother appears, passes me and turns right in front of me. Yes, the Gods do smile on us at times. hah.
The one guy was really stoked which made it a lot of fun. I took them to a deeper spot...only 25-40 feet or so and showed them Lesson 2. There was a big barracuda cruising around us and I showed it to him. Then I went down to the bottom at about 35 feet and laid there behind a rock. Sure enough the barracuda came slowly cruising in closer....and closer.....and I was running out of breath.....shot and MISSED. haha. Anyway, he got the idea. He wants to get a gun now and try to shoot fish in Montana where he lives half the year.
The Spetton wetsuit is really nice and warm and comfortable. Only 1.5 mm and this time of year I usually am in my winter gear of 2 mm vest with 3 mm full suit over it.

  • One of our favorite cuts. Man, clear water in the morning so we went outside. Sure enough there was the big school of dogs. I could see them shining off in the distance. So, I dropped down looking and swimming away from them and as I peeked back between my legs, there were 15 nice cuberas right behind me. SHIT !!. I slowly turned and there was one about 40 lbs. But then, "WHUP"!! they all spooked and moved off. It was my first dive of the day so I wasn't worth a shit and only stayed down for 50 seconds.
Anyway, I got a dog about 15 minutes later and then the cubera. I was dropping down to the dogs and looked below me....and there he was at about 70 feet. Stoned him right on top of the head.
Got the biggest dog inside the cut at a reliable hole. The vis was getting bad as the tide started dropping. I came from inside going out and snuck up on the hole from behind this rock. There he was just hanging out looking out into the channel. hah.
The barracuda was following me around for a while. I laid down on the bottom in the channel and he came right up to me. Also got a couple yellow jacks, a decent yellow edge grouper, one hogfish...
And Mo got a triggerfish and a snall hog. ya man. Dec 26.

  • Beautiful fish Hank! As always.

I got a nice haul yesterday as well, I'll post the report later in the PR section.

I have a friend from Italy that is considering traveling to Belize with his family (Wife and 1 year old son). He is a freediving instructor and loves to spearfish. Probably he will contact you later, but are there any nice hotels or accomodations for his familiy to stay while he goes spearfishing with you?

He speaks English and Spanish fluently.

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • Oh, and all the fish in the last few posts were shot with Pursuit shafts. Wow, I can say that here. ....haha.

And with tuned floppers, a technique that I learned here.

I wish everyone calm seas and bigger and dumber fish for 2012. :D

  • "Setting Steel", a guy I hooked up with on Spearboard is arriving from FL today. Hope to get him out tomorrow. I'm really stoked to hook up with spearos from other places. Always something to learn. I hope I can get him into some fish and will post some pics. ....with my new Pursuit fins. The fish are nervous. haha.

  • Hank, Just read this thread. I am happy to take your Montana buddies out if they are interested. Looks beautiful there.

  • Tone came and went. We had really bad weather while he was here. Too rough to cross to the best spots. He had his heart set on some big snapper but it wasn't to be. We had to dive inside the reef. Rain and wind. All this year has been shitty....at least on the days I can go.
