MAKO Spearguns - Poor quality made in China

  • Another goodie from Mako spearguns, the MAKO Combination 1.5mm Wetsuit Shirt and Removable Hood.

Why is the hood removable? No reason really as it's not connected to the shirt in any way. Maybe Mako means that it's removable from your head, which is a good thing then. The shirts are from good old Aropec https://www.aropec.com/en/prod…uard/SS-5K15P-1M-1mm.html FOB Taiwan $9.80 if you're interested in starting your own named after a shark spearfishing gear company, the domain www.lemonsharkspearguns.com is available :)

  • Mako products I have broken:
    Floppers off shafts
Guns (loading pads off the back getting into a panga)
Bungee's (they rot out completely in about 3 months
    Knives
    weight belts

After i broke the gun I got rid of it, only shooting RA and Seasniper shit now. Wish I had the cash to upgrade the very last bit of mako shit I have to something that can survive a season.
Also any stainless bits and pieces on mako gear rusts like a mofo incredibly quickly.

The army of mako zombies on spearboard who have barely shot their first fish is pretty hilarious too.

Also anyone know who is manufacturing their new carbons? The way those work out for people in the first year should be really interesting to see

  • Too funny, the man really knows his shades of blue. How can you not admire the posting style with a large font, so that everybody can u-n-d-e-r-s-t-a-n-d. Now that's good customer service.

  • The latest from Mako and appended to every piece of crap gear is the slogan "MAKO direct price". What is a "MAKO direct price"? The wording implies that there is a higher price for the same item when buying it elsewhere. And that can only mean that Mako products are sold somewhere else other than on the Mako website.

It is conventional and ethical in almost all industries, that the manufacturer or source of the product never sells the product at a lower price than his customers do, which in this case would be a dive shop. A manufacturer that sells the same product directly to the end consumer, at a lower price than his customer the dive shop, is guaranteed to lose his customers and business partners; the dive shops.

It follows then that the "MAKO direct price" campaign is misleading on two fronts:
    1. Mako products are not sold anywhere else other than on the Mako website. So the price is not the "direct price", because there is no other non-direct price.
    2. Implying that Mako products are sold elsewhere to give them validity, when in fact no retailer will touch Mako products precisely because of Mako's unethical marketing strategy (products being crap on its own doesn't stop most people from selling them).

And before there's more smoke and mirrors about the "MAKO direct price" simply being words to describe Mako Spearguns business model (being a direct seller), here's a screen capture that clearly shows two prices on the mask product page, with the "Retail" price which is presumably the non-direct price available elsewhere being significantly higher.

  • As many times as I needed to until I feel I got my meaning across.

I think censoring the mere mention of Speardiver by an impartial forum member, or any other brand name for that matter, is above and beyond anything I'd ever do. That really makes what I'm doing here defensive in nature. My consolation is that the grogan is going to be more and more busy deleting posts and threatening his forum members as Speardiver gains popularity on the spearfishing scene.

I know this is an old thread just revived and one I had not seen previously. I'm on the road teaching and was unable to sleep and found this and wanted to post my negative experience on weird bard and Grogan. I puruse several forums for news, information, and entertainment and sometimes have fun and occasionally try to help.

I found a thread on weird board not long ago from someone wanting to purchase a wetsuit jacket only. I responded directing him to Dan and Dan's website BUT every time I typed Dan's information the software AUTOMTICALLY censored it with xxxxxx's. Then I get PM's from Jim (JFJF) telling me that if I mention Dan, his forum or website again I will be banned from weird board. So I sent the OP a private (not so private) response via PM and my responses AND PM's were deleted and I got another threatening pm from JFJF.

I also found out that if Grogan invites you to be a product sponsored AND you refuse - then you are banned or otherwise "punished" in various ways through Grogan's total control of weird board.

So I contacted Dan and told him what occurred - and heard the rest of the story and started asking around in private and found some interesting historical unethical issues involving Grogan.

Regarding Mako - there are numerous issues of conflict between Mako and other manufactuerer's all over stealing products and underselling them. I have bought from Mako before but ended up returning them for various reasons but decided several months ago to never buy a Mako product again - not that I buy a lot or often anyway.

I don't have a lot of stuff bought from Dan but reason is that unfortunately when I need something (usually for an upcoming trip) on short deadline - Dan's out of my size. Of course with as all operation inventory will be limited or my timing is wrong.

THIS is a great forum without the rancor, political and religious caca and rudeness found daily on weird board and a fun place to visit! The little I've bought from Dan is great and no one can beat Dan's quick excellent personal service!!! :thumbsup2:

    Just my $.02

  • I will state what occurred and you can draw your own conclusions:

I was warned by JFJF to never post anything related to Dan or I would be banned. Tony & Jim deleted all of my posts where I was trying to help OP's needing equipment by sending them to Dan. I then used PM's but same thing. This was a month or more ago. Based on this, and Mark Forney aka Marcus's conspiracy crap that is posted every day, I quit posting but tried to help new comers on equipment choices via PM's only.

The past few day I saw lots of SB staff & tony highly recommend any-all questions on equipment to Mako. I then sent PM's (not replies to thread) to OP never bashing Mako but with options that IMHO were much better than Mako.

As of last night I am proud to say tony/Jim and company banned me from posting or sending PM's. Thank you thank you!!

My opinion is they do not want any options other than Mako mentioned unless, then only tolerated, if the recommendation is a paying sponsor's product - but NEVER by them - according to SB tony & co Mako is the ONLY dealer they ever recommend.. I have to question their relationship with Mako whereas no other options are tolerated. :confused1:

I am Not, nor did I, bash Mako on my PM's or earlier posts.

What is going on? As weird as SB is especially with the likes of Mark aka markus and others like him - too far out for me anyway and majority of posts aren't helpful, friendly, or even related to our sport. Very sad and now he is emailing everyone that left SB to go to the new forum with strong California section with no religion, politics or conspiracies and no bashing or rudeness tolerated.

For me personally Dan's forum and Chris's new forum are the only ones of value

    Just saying.

  • I don't know why I'm on a Mako thread as I don't have any of their Shite. (I like the new post tab)
What I will say is this: I could own and use any gear that's out there, also I am not sponsored by Speardiver but choose to buy and use it for it's constant refinement and quality. I will not risk my life on gear that I can not depend on. My Speardiver wetsuit, weight belt,wt vest. C-90 Carbon fins, Speardiver knife, PPDs, Rubber and GoPro cameras have been spot on perfect. No other seller Ive dealt with puts product on my door step faster then Dan/Speardiver.....Bullshite walks and no body talks. I also admire hard work and perseverance from a family business that go's out of it's way to give me good service and top gear. I look forward to future quality gear in the chute.

    Cheers, Don

  • Wow, Lots of fireworks and not the 4th of July.

    I didn't see a callout on the MAKO Euro Muzzle adapters for;

    Thread Size?
    Thread Class?
    Length of Thread?
    Type Material?
    Surface Finish?
    Weight of Part?
What is the diameter of the Stem? Wonder what type of axial load it can handle?

The Stem on the Ball looks really long.... I don't see a technical reason to do that. Strange.....

I know before I get a reply that I ask too much, but No thread callout was my thought, I just added to the list as I was at it....

I know we all can do better at describing parts for customers to understand what they are getting.

I'm not on the "Beat Mako with a wet noodle campaign" , but there are so many other examples out there that don't describe what the product is with clarity.

Hey Dan, perhaps, We can have a Thread for Worst described spearo part. I could sure add to that thread.... Might get their attention to say what they are selling for the spear-o's out there. I'll let you consider that thought.

  • The mako bands i bought, because I was in a rush to get my gun wet again, wish bone poped out of all 3 in less than 2 mins of havin them loaded.

My Speardiver gear, is still going strong

Unbelievable. How could someone sell something like that without repetitive quality assurance tests?
