Diving with Tunes

  • For someone who doesn't want to be a moderator you sure seem to take an interest in moderating.

Steak knife on a broom stick.. I'd have no bad feelings for someone presenting this idea. It is a funny idea but contrary to the one in this thread goes right along with the spirit of spearfishing.

There is another place on the interenet, supposedly for freedive spearos, and when you go there and click on some threads you end up shaking your head with frustration. Do you want this place to be the same? I am happy about it being my choice, as fuzz wisely put it, it is my vision. And if my vision needs to be more clearly defined here you go; If you feel you need music to complement your spearfishing then Speardiver forum is not the place for you.

  • Rolo, Dan: Have you ever been 18? How did you act?

Actually no. I suffer from a rare disease similar to what my old friend Benny suffered from...or shall I say young friend?

But I suppose if some one yelled, ''Hey check out that blond in the beach chair'' I would be SOL.:D

  • listening to music while diving is more than stupid is dangerous. Anything that impairs your abilities in a dangerous and wild environment as the sea, in which you´re part of the very food chain is a def. no no

    I'm a Speardiver, not a freediver

Do you want this place to be the same? There's nothing else going on so entertain yourselves and turn this thread into a discussion about whether I did the right thing removing this fool from the forum. I am happy about it being my choice, as fuzz so wisely put it, it is my vision. I'm a pro at backseat moderating. :cool2:

Can't help but be interested in how things run, it's my nature.
It's not easy to determine where lines should be drawn.

The primary reason members chime in... because they are personally vested in the way things go around here.
I know no one is as vested as you, but being over-defensive will discourage them from posting and/or voicing their opinion.

  • I used a Swimp3 off and on the last few years for my pool workout, until the 3rd one bit the dust, then I gave up on them. I do like the music for the surface laps. For my underwater laps I would listen to somethying REALLY mellow like massage music or Brian Eno. After a while though I found it best to just shut it off for the underwater laps; I could focus best with just the normal pool sounds.

  • those music things are for slow-poke swimmers in the pool where there is nothing better to look at than old band-aids and chewing gum on the bottom. Real swimmers don't use them because they are focused on their workouts. Wherever I am, be it pool or ocean ; I like to be part of the environment and aware of my surroundings. You can listen to music any other time; take advantage of the solitude and peaceful sounds of the water. You might even hear croaking sea bass or whales. :)

  • And who was going to babysit him, you? Thread's good where it is, so people know not to come to a freedive spearfishing forum and be stupid, for that there's spearboard. He could come back with another user name after he figures out what's what. This is a year old thread BTW.

  • I like this thread, but unlike Carla I was never a Champion swimmer. In 1982 I used to listen to Kate Bush (Wunthering Heights) as I swam against my 10 foot 5/8 bungee training rig. I thought my cassette recorder and party balloon covered ear phones were state of the art. There was no one dumb enough to be in the unheated pool in winter so I didn't worry about hearing anyone call for help. I would never want to listen to music while I hunt, as I love hearing the crackle and sounds of the fishes and shrimp.

  • Strictly from a business perspective, I would say that these new guys could be the backbone of your business. Instead you might have sugested that he buy a go pro and add the music later to his dive. ;)

I learned a long time ago that ego and business dont go well together. Many times I have wanted to tell a customer to kiss it and bit my tongue to enjoy his business going forward. The times my ego took over, I lost that acct and all future referrals.

  • First it's not about ego, it's about the caliber of the community. Second you have to draw the line somewhere, even in business right? Otherwise you end up eating shit for money. My fuse may be shorter than others, but my gear is no nonsense good. I'll settle for being comfortable with myself over another few $$ in the bank.
