Broward Beach Conditions

  • 2-28-9
I'm going to try again this morning.
Hope the conditions are better than yesterday
So far [5am] there is no dive plan by the yak spearos for today.
If no one posts another plan I'll be going to Dania pier beach at aprox 0830, but I can go anywhere others want to go. No problem.
I'll be online till around 645am and please to call me after that time.
The dive plan will be posted in the usual place.
Any and all are welcome to join in as usual.

Stevo, Ismail, Hia-Leah and I went out today.:)
We spent half the day on the 1st reef and then went out to 30fsw for the last half of the day.
We got some small fish on the first reef. My new spear shotgun got bloody on grunts and spade fish in 15fsw:D
Stevo, Ismail and Hia-Leah got to try out their new gear also
Hia-Leah got a nice hog AND saved the day for a fancy cabin cruiser captain by unwrapping a trap line from his prop 3/4mi from shore:thumbsup2: Maybe Hia-Leah will register here and tell his own story
I saw a 3-4f octopus swimming across the reef top
Once again we had a great yak/spearin day but got little fish
Maybe tomorrow we will bring home the fish:toast:

Forecast was for worsening conditions as the day went on so we [Dino, Scott and Stevo] just went to the first reef. I used my new fish shotgun and got 6 Spades, 3 grunts and 2 drums. I had 2 nice Cero Macks swim by me today. All I could do was look at my shotgun wishing I had my RA in my hands instead.:(
Soooo, we yaked out to the first reef, we all agreed that it looked like a good spot to drop anchor and 30 sec after Scott got in he surfaced yelling LOOK, LOOK! In his hand was the speargun that Ismail had lost a week ago:thumbsup2::thumbsup2:
Others got fish also, hope they post their stories also
You know that the beach surf is high and rough when you come in with a surfer on each side surfing the same wave as your yak is riding on top of:0
Lots and lots of beach buns today:D

  • no problem.
Looks like it is Dania pier beach tomorrow[3-8] with the first spearos there at 8am or so
I'll be at the yak/spear site around 8-830 regardless of the weather
If it is too rough to yak maybe we can just swim the jaxs.
I really do not think tomorrow will be good but I am hoping for the best.:)
This wind had blown for days and days so even if the seas are flat the viz MAY be crap.
IF the seas ever do go flat and the viz is crap inshore, it would be good to finally get out past the 3rd reef into near blue water:D

Anyone have a used kite board setup for sale? I weight 175lbs
    Will consider trading spearfishing gear.:D

  • at Dania pier beach today
    begin==never
Several of us drove to and met up at Dania pier beach this morning and the sea state was crap.
High East wind, pounding beach surf, cloudy skys and rain, what looked like poor viz looking down from the pier and NO beach buns.:(
Some of our spearos drove an hour to get to Dania pier:(
Only 1 spearo opted to try a beach/float dive at the last minute. I had to leave so I do not know if he even got into the water. Good luck to Projectile.
We talked spearin/freediving for hours and then called off the day.
    Maybe tomorrow will be better:)

  • spoke with a buddy yesterday that went out, said 2-3 foot seas, but the vis was 100 ft +
they were out by fowey near the drop off. looks like these east winds are pushing in blue water.
I can smell the fish blood already.
