mph? Are you talking about speed or distance?
Broward Beach Conditions

-
Speed that the GPS [yak] is traveling
-
Well, if you can figure out the distance to your spots I'd like to know it, to see if it's feasible for me to swim out with you guys.
-
Dan--- I wouldn't want to swim out the 2nd reef. Would be too much for me and in the summer time the storms come up fast sometimes and a swimmer might not be able to get to shore ahead of a storm.
You are welcome ANYTIME to use my spare yak that lives on top of my truck. It comes with paddle OR peddles, dive flag, anchor and anchor line and compass. Loaning it out is no hassle for me at all as all I have to do extra is take the spare yak off the truck and then put it back on the truck when we are done spearin. I could even meet you at a beach closer to your house -
i have a tandem yak that I could use to meet you as well Dan.
the swim is do-able , I have done it many times, the truth is though, I am so tired when Iget out that I spend a while resting ang then the daunting swim back in keeps me thinking twice about moving against the current or going furhter out, I typically only swim the first reef from shore but the second is do-able
I estimate it is 3/4 of a mile to a mile to our spots on the 2nd reef...total guess based on how fast i paddle
-
hau wheres your report?? after all u did get that decent mutton :thumbsup1:
Me and hau barracuda reef out at 8 casue i made us late
ocean was a lake when we got in and bout the same when we got out around 1230 maybe later.
Big mackerals but neither of us managed one. I had one on (biggest ive ever seen) but it came off the spear casue i only had one band pulled and it was a distance shot.
Only fish from barracuda reef for me was a schoolmaster but scored a decent hog on the way in.
Hau landed a nice mutton.
All around a beautiful day weather and water wise. -
At Dania pier
begin at 8am------------------------end at 1pm
wind from NW at 5mph-----------from N at 5mph
water temp 88F
current from N at 1/2mph--------same
viz 40f in 35fsw--------------------35f in 35fsw
seas less than 2f-------------------almost flat
air 82F PC---------------------------87F cloudyThanks for the report sdeisen. I would say you gave a very good report

We swam for hours and never did really find the fish.
The mutton I DID get was because he commited the "mutton suicide mistake". Almost all small to average size non hunted muttons will fall for this and swim BACK to the spearo;)
We had a very relaxing morning yak spearin. Just wish we had seen more better fish
Thanks sdeisen -
even the mutton suicide mistake doesnt help me break the mutton curse...to this day, I have shot at least 5 and never taken one home

glad you are out there living the dream Hau

At Meade St today
begin at 930am--------------------end at 1230pm
wind from West at 5mph---------same
water temp 88F
current from S at 1/2mph------ same
viz 40f in 25fsw------------------30f in 25fsw
seas less than 2f-----------------almost flat
air 80F PC-------------------------86F CloudyMe and scott at Meade St for 1/2 a day
Scott got at least 1 nice hog.
I lucked out and got 2 hogs, 2 macks and a small dog
We couldn't find the fish again today
A big front came over just as we were getting in the water. The cloud cover kept the photoplankton bloom down and we could have speared fish all day with good viz.LunkerBuster--the dream is almost over as I have testing at work for the next 2-3 weeks that will stop me from spearin
-
aim for the center mass, any high shot they will tear of your spear. if you fin on the way down they wont let you get close
-
Mutton = Aim for the head. Pound per pound the fish that goes the most crazy and most likely to rip off if the shot is not good.
-
Hau, Dan and I have done many shoredives out to the 2nd and 3rd reefs. He's very capable of tagging along with you guys without a problem. He had a yak but I believe he sold it.
-
Maybe the 2nd reef is further from shore where they dive than it is in Ft Lauderdale?
-
I know you guys are more than capable of swimming out there, but I just wanted to remind Dan that my spare yak was almost always available to him to use IF he chose not to swim out.
Thanks Mariner
-
We have competency testing at work for the next 2-3 weeks so i'm out of the water till it is over.

Hope others can contribute to the conditions reports while I'm out

got out today for an afternoon dive..meade st, noon to 5.
some particulate in the water but about 35 ft of vis, dove from the 2nd in about 35-40 ft of water to the edge of the first in about 20-25ft.
lots of close groupers and a few jacks in all the spots...got three hogs, two small (13") and one around 18"first day with the RA and the Tinman muzzle and I am in love...what a nice gun..open muzzles are the only way for me from now on.
-
today at meade,, worked first reef south for a while. didnt get out till noon and came back in around 3 (remembered why i usually get up a llot earlier). vis had potenital but a lot of thick particulate.
