Went out solo at Meade St today.
Seas and current was great, but viz and sun was poor.
I only saw one 20in dog that thought he was a chub and was just swimming around in a school of chubs :confused1: until 60in of Riffe SS zipped through him
I was paddling almost to the second reef when 2 stealth spearos all in black and in an all blacked out high preformance dive boat slipped up behind me. When I finally heard them behind me I turned around in my
yak seat and saw Seaweed and his uncle grinning at me. We talked for a few minutes then went our own ways. A short time later I saw FWC pull up to seaweeds vessel and remain there for 15min or so. When the FWC left seaweed and headed my way I stopped hunting and just waited but the FWC just drove past me and waved:thumbsup2:
Since I had planned to just be IN the water for 3 hours yesterday and today, I wore JUST my freedivingspearfishing 3mm 2PC open celled suit with Mako gloves and Omer 3mm socks and I was warm the whole 3 hours both days :thumbsup2:
Hau,no picture of Lady in strings Bikini,ha:D
Nice seeing you on the water again hau. Hau showed us his rob allen which was the high point of the day for us. We saw no fish except about more nice grouper than I have ever seen in Ft Lauderdale. Today would've been an awesome day for Ft. Lauderdale if grouper wasn't closed.
Do you think it's because they're spawning or because the measures are having an effect? Most people probably didn't know that it was the 19th when the closure started. Considering no one was probably shooting during the holidays the fish would've had a month of no pressure. Whereas everything else is getting pounded.. Its strange to think that I won't be able to shoot something I always was looking to shoot. Maybe it's for the better, it was so rare to see anything bigger than a baby grouper between Ft Lauderdale and Haulover until now. Then I think maybe I just didn't know where they are.. Still hau and his crew haven't gotten a grouper yet, that I can remember.
Alan told me something about a change in the mutton regulations, anybody know anything?
It could be the spawn but the grouper I saw were alone whereas in st lucie they where in schools.
Today is the first day I noticed something funny. As I looked at my GPS wondering where to go to get fish all the numbers were geared towards mainly one species, the grouper. All my numbers are rocky reefs shallow and deep where I hoped to find the prize fish, a grouper. Now that it's closed I guess we have to find some mutton spots.
no we dont see many nice groupers where we normally hunt,, the first time i saw more than a couple legal grouper oon the same day locally was a week ago in ft. lauderdale, and in surprisingly shallow water.,, im still waiting to see the supposed "winter time mutton" flush

I was glad I was with good spearos an didn't have to worry about anyone getting speared
Beach surf was very rough today but we lost NO gear an no one got hurt:)
scott did a great job yak surfin right up onto the beach:thumbsup2:
we all saw fish but the viz was so poor that we each had about 2-3 sec from the time we would see a fish til it was gone into the crap viz:(
We tried for 2 hours an then gave up an went to shore
Today was a beautiful yak spearfishing day with blue sky, warm air, ok wind and seas an good friends:D
what's the deal...this viz is sticking and it sucks...the wind has been both easterly and west, shouldn't one of those clean it up?
out with scott and hau this morning, ocean looked like total shat from shore
we dicked around and put it off and finallly all agreed to head out.
pretty heavy chop and waves but viz was a huge improvement,
hau thought we were stoopid but now i think he'll be the last one to come in :rolleyes1:
great day with the crew but cut fshort for escuela

the gun is sick to death its a laser

Today was just like sdeisen said:D
I got out to the reef a half hour after scott and sdeisen and handed sdeisin my ETPG to use while I suited up. :@
Next thing I hear is sdeisen yelling and holding up a very nice hog (see pic on post 1032) that he STONED with my ETPG.:thumbsup2:
Scott and sdeisen had to go in around noon and when they hoisted anchors and headed West I hoisted anchor an headed East
After yak towing East for 15min I started seeing fish and I stayed in a 100ydX100yd area shootin fish till 530:thumbsup2:
My ETPG is so SIC. I love this gun. I would shoot one fish and see another seconds later. With my ETPG I can get one fish off the spear, glance at the gun just long enough to get the spear started into the Enclosed Track and then finish loading the gun while not taking my eyes off the next fish :attack2:
After limiting out on hogs I moved 100yds away and started shooting dogs, triggers and other fish :attack3:
Best part is that we have been killing all these fish with ONE 331/2in band on my ETPG
congrats Hau...so glad it is finally coming true for you...you seem pretty stoked
