    seas 1-2f in 40fsw------------1fr in 15fsw

spearo Scott and and I met up at Dania pier beach and paddled straight out to 40fsw
At 40fsw you could just see fish drift out over the sand sports
I finally spotted a hog and dropped 40f straight down on him. As I got deeper and deeper, he just continued to swim lazly along the reef and would not turn or look up until my spear was almost point blank and I pulled the trigger. The shaft entered his left side top and exited his left side bottom:D He measured 20in:)
That was the only fish we pulled a trigger on all day.
I saw a huge lobster just walking along the bottom. I was at the surface 40f up. I yelled for Scott several times and when I put my face back in the water I couldn't find the lobster again:(
Other than the poor viz at 40fsw and no fish seen, it was a beautiful yak/spearin day with lots asnd lots of beach buns.:D
Tomorrows forecast is the same as today. Maybe we can find the fish tomorrow:)

  • The disappearing dinner is something that always happens to me. I have learned to never take my eyes off a nice catch.

Scott, Lunkerbuster and fishingdude all did very well today with PB fishes:thumbsup2:
I'll probably have to go out again tomorrow:D
OK, gotta go clean fish now[11pm]:D

  • LunkerBuster---nice looking hogs and congratulations on your first blood on your new Tito:thumbsup2:
Pargo is correct. 2 bands is so much better than 1 in so many ways IMO. Opinions are just that, opinions. Except that it is a fact that 2 bands loaded to a spearos physical limit is more powerful than 1 band to the spearos limit.

  • LB,

starting out to chest load with a single 20mm can be very discouraging.
A major burden chest loading guns cause, is you always have to have a wetsuit with pad or a rashguard with some form of padding on it when diving.
    what technique are you using?
It is more technique than strength.
This is the techinque most others and I use.

Grab one side of the band with your right hand, pull the band enough to allocate the rest tab into your chest. Once you get it in position the band should be about 1/3 of the way stretched. grab the other side of the band with your left hand and pull it to the notch. this technique gets easier with practice.
there is a good visual tutorial on this site, once you click on it go to articles/spearfishing tips/ gunloading tutorial.

    good luck,

  • thanks for that advice...I have a pad that I made, it is just a foam flipflop that I cut in half and glued in my wetsuit. It was impossible before I added the pad.

I am using the technique they lay out on the RA site, thanks for the tutorial though.

I just need to get it down, I can tell that I have the strength, but the form makes such a difference. I loaed it 4 times and two of them were awful, I was literally seeing stars i havd to exert so much, the other two times were a struggle, but I had glimpses of how easy it can be with proper technique....oh well, just another excuse to get out and dive more often..

"but honey, I have to go, I need to practice my loading form :)"

    i like to spear fish

went to the beach really late and had to park at the South end of the lot:0
surfers were thick to get through going out and then back in later:(
did NOT crash and burn yak surfing back onto the beach today, I bailed off the yak between waves in 4f of water:D
saw octopus, squid, snook, a big smart grouper who ran when he saw me on on the surface 40f above him.
FWC " stopped to see if you were OK out here". :) They didn't want anything else, no lisc, equipment or fish check:D
only got 1 18in hog, 1 spade and 1 14in trigger, but I was only IN the water aprox. 2 hours as it takes a while to get out and back

mca00176---you wouldn't have wanted to go today. It was very rough and windy from the time I left shore till I touched shore again and was worse out in 40fsw.

Tomorrows forecasted conditions are deteriating. Now calling for 2-4f seas:(
