I saw a documentary on discovery channel yesterday about these people who were adrift in an inflatable dingy for 5 days. They had no water or food. There were five of them to begin with, three men and two women, and only two of them survived when a cargo ship spotted them on the fifth day. One woman succumbed to injuries sustained when their sailboat sunk. Two men drank sea water, became delirious and jumped in the water around the 4th day to be eaten by sharks that were following the dingy.
This made me think again about the predicament of being adrift in the sea with no drinking water. There are a few devices in existence that can make drinking water out of sea water. The most interesting thing to me however was reading somewhere that one man experimented successfully with drinking sea water. The key from what I remember was to drink in very small quantities often, not when you actually feel thirsty. I can't find this information again and naturally am skeptical of it.
The only way to know for sure is to experiment on oneself. I have in mind to try a week of drinking sea water. Any thoughts?
