  • The owner came out on a Speargun Hunter show some time back. He talked a little bit about the guns he was building. He runs a charter out of Jupiter, FL and KOAH's are enclosed track spearguns. I haven't put my hands on one but they seem like nice guns.

Not sure how much help that might be. :(

  • Thanks guys now I know they are well built, just need someone who has fired one to let me know if they can shoot worth a damn,my cuz is looking at a 65 blue water, hell if they shoot nice i may order one for myself at those prices!!

  • People swear by them, but I have reservations. Their products don't look like anything special, coming from someone who has only made 3 guns. I haven't handled one, but I think the workmanship is...adequate. I commented on this thread on SB, but refrained from commenting after the second set of photos. Now, someone can flame me for this opinion, but take a look for yourself; note that the customer was really ecstatic to get the gun.

  • I have only held a few personally and they are solid. The people who use them swear by them and I have heard nothing but good review about their performance. That being said they are not the prettiest guns made. Overall I like them and for the price they arent bad but since I havent gotten a chance to actually use one take that with a grain of salt.

  • Thanks Jim and Cuda, really surprised with all you Florida divers here no one has shot one, gun is rough but for me its a tool and if it does its job in the water well then ...amen... ;) hummm china man did say "good thing no cheep, cheep thing no good"

  • Thanks Jose, The model gun is specific to Bluewater fishing, what I am looking for is input from speros who have shot them to determine kick, balance, range accuracy and if lucky how it holds up over time... Only someone who has shot one or owned one for a long time can comment I would think

  • I bought the Koah Bluewater summer of 2011. Love the gun. It's a straight shooting gun. I took it to Mexico for a dive trip and it did well in aspects of the design. Balance and aiming worked out really well.

The gun had a kick to it and a good pull when the spear hit the end of the line. The pull at the end was nice telling me there was some energy in that spear. I was shooting at a PVC tubular square I had achored on the bottom of the river in a long deep pool.

I set up a target in a local river to me and did some test shooting and it was perfect on each shoot. The line needs to be longer for better range. I don't recall the target range of factory line length, but I can measure it if somone is interested.

I'm not to much of a Blue water diver for experience, used to the low vis water of Northern CA, so this was a new experience for me.

The only problem I had with the gun was the trigger mech. After holding the gun and the beautiful craftsman ship, there was no Safety. I was like you got to be kidding me. I emailed Koah and they had been waiting on Josh to design one into his trigger. (He was a design on his web site now)

I took the gun apart and modiified the mech with a safety and the Koah Sales guy (Can't remember his name) was excited to see it on his gun.

No safety limited his sales in some dive stores. Be Happy to post pics of the gun and modifications. The safety that Josh has it the way to go, My Design was a quick fix as I was in crunch to go on the trip, I had to mill out the inside of the mech and added a cam and lever for safety

Let me see if I can figure out how to post pictures here.

  • Nice report. Although the safety is the first thing I eliminate to all my spearguns. Never trust a safety. It's only purpose is to be engaged when you are about to shot a fish of a lifetime...

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • ^^ so true. I'm not sure why you would need a safety either.

But as far as Koah goes, they are made locally in FL, and while I haven't personally shot one, I do know that it is mainly favored by SCUBA divers. For the money he's paying for a KOAH, he could just get a riffe euro 130 and shoot the crap out of any bluewater fish he needs

  • Is that Steve handle just flush mounted with wood screws to bear the recoil energy?

I use a safety on all my guns, I have never lost a fish or shot opportunity. It is my personal belief a gun owner
can remove OEM parts if they chose.
