Went out yesterday and today off my normal spot. Saw a lot of fish yesterday but my aim was atrocious. Saw a few Bonito, a huge Yellowtail snapper, Muttons, a few Mackerel and lots of Jacks.
Today didn't see as many fish but did manage to snag a nice sized Jack, a small cuda and got to watch a big nurse shark come up underneath me and eat a snapper I shot off my spear as it went into a hole in the reef. Shooting the cuda was amusing because I made it to the spot on the reef where I was gonna start looking for them and as soon as I told myself to start looking, there was one right in front of me. Never tried the cuda before but everyone says it is tasty so I'll be eating some in a bit.
Planning to do it all again on Sunday if anyone is interested.

If you're missing all of a sudden check your shaft and flopper for straightness.
Nice cuda. Good eats, but make sure you cut out the heart immediately, that's where the poison is concentrated and it starts spreading the moment the fish starts losing blood.
-
Good info to know. I cleaned and filleted it as soon as I got out of the water. I'll check the shaft tonight when I get home.
-
Well done sir. Better ceviche up that jack if you know what's good for ya
-
What poison do Cudas carry?

Great thanks, that's what I thought but was confused and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything

Went out earlier today on a coworkers boat for a bit despite the forecast for 3ft seas. We battled the waves (which weren't really that bad) and hit up two reef ledges off of Fort Lauderdale in about 25-30ft of water.
First location, was full of reef fish and a few large but VERY SKITTISH groupers. We then ended up heading North to an awesome ledge and saw tons of fishy activity. Before getting in the water, I managed to break the side of my mask that holds the strap and I thought my diving was over but I managed to secure the strap to the mask with two zip ties that were on the boat. Overall I got a nice sized Margate and Spadefish and one of the other guys got a nice 20" or so hog. I've never tried the Spadefish so I shot it because I read it was quite tasty.
Before getting back on the boat, I was pulling in my float with my stringer on it and when it got to me, to my surprise, the stringer was no longer attached! I swam a 25 yards and saw my fish on the bottom of the ocean with my stringer and recovered them successfully! One of the guys thought my spade was and angel and almost threw it back in the water until I assured him it WAS NOT an Angel Fish...lol
Overall a great day on the water. Here's some pics.
