Those are called here "vjigantes" the masks are made of the fiber part of the coconut, you have to take out the seed and carve the outside, making the mouth and eyes, the hornrs are made of the vines that hold the coconuts and then is paint, they are used in different festivals around the islan, but mostly on Loiza a town in the north of PR they are very hard to make and use (heavy) they represent the "evil" and there are other vejigantes that represent the Sapnish people that they kill the "evil" but in reality is the Moros or Moors when they invade Spain, is a neat festival and we have 3 different vejigantes, we also have ones that are made of paper from Ponce (south part of PR) the ones of coconut from Loiza (northeast of PR) and the wire mask(Spanish representation and they are from Hatillo middle north of PR)
