  • thanks Don , also forgot to say with the 2 warps the shaft reaches the end of the shooting line and bounces back some what which is why is was testing it with 3 wraps .

  • Dread 20 foot on a gun your size is very very very good... Many manufactures like rife, AbBiller, JBL and others post ranges on their guns that are flat out untrue... Good for you if you are getting that range, the big test will be penetration power at your range

  • yeah i tested it more today and the spear is going far but it didn't have the punch i wanted so i shortened each band by about 3 1/2 inches because it was shooting the spear a little lazy . have to test it a little more [ fine tuning ] .:)

  • sorry i measured it , i cut 4 1/4 inches of each band . so each band is about 24 3/4 inches long which is shorter than the 27 '' bands on the riffe #3 which is what i was using as a guide but the reason i was following riffe's model is because cutting that 4 '' off makes it feel like double the pulling force to load it , which is little hard but i prefer the added power . i can physically load an even shorter band but i want to test it first .:)

  • I agree with Don ie "Two bands".
I would also add "one wrap". I'm not sure what the hunting is like there, but I string a lot of fish with a single wrap and have only ever had trouble when trying to shoot a double.
The kind of power and range you are talking about would be suited to penetrating thick bodied tuna and marlin and will likely result in spears bent and/or stuck in the coral/rocks if hunting reef fish IMHO.

  • hey guys , i tested the gun today with the shorter bands and i would say the 2 bands are enough but i am going to leave the third band in the gun just for the hell of it . on some separate news i just came back for the hospital . i was finished testing the gun and went back out to practice snorkeling . i then tried to dive but i could not because i was not wearing weights , so i tried using my hands to cup the water to pull my self down . when i put all my strength into it i dislocated my right shoulder , which hurt like hell . thankfully i was close to the shore was able to get out . i had to endure the pain for about 1 hr to get to the hospital . the bone spec dr popped it back into place while i was on some awesome pain killers so i don't remember him doing it . i woke up with everyone laughing because while i was high i was saying some weird stuff . the doctor said it was a combination of fatigue and weak muscles . he said that i would be fine but in two weeks i have to do some physical therapy to strengthen the muscles so it would not happen again . he did say though that it is a common problem with new swimmers . i did not think that my my injury from learning spearfishing would be some snorkeling . :D

  • Rest up and heal well. Do NOT skimp on your physical therapy. The more work you do now the less pain you have later in life!

Buy resistance bands (or use old gun bands) and maintain a good shoulder girdle after your pt clears you.

    i like to spear fish

  • Have not gone out yet , but physical therapy went really well although my right deltoid is still a little smaller than the left , i had moderately bad nerve damage . Feeling is coming back in surrounding skin [ itches ] . I am too busy to dive due to school and work [ piled up during rehab ] plus doc said to take it easy while ligaments fully heal . I hope to dive before end of year though . Thanks for asking .For now i am just admiring other dives on Speardiver :D .

  • Thanks Guys , on a semi related subject I've been trying stick welding [ Dad and i are doing some much needed home repairs ] and by happy accident i bought some stainless steel electrodes which are a dream to use . Great alternative to mig stainless , plan on using it on next trigger housing .
