  • Marco what % of hoo's you shoot get away roughly?
Any advice from you is welcome, dont know anyone who shoots more than you do.

Probably less than 5%. But I probably lost the first 10 shot...

I have to say that I didn't had the gear you have (and still don't). I used to spearfish with a single band 100 cm Euro with a reel. There where no forums with old farts telling you what to do neither. :rolleyes1::laughing:

Now I use a double band single flopper 110 and a 100 feet floatline.

I have lost exactly 30% so far but I am getting to the point where I will be able to be in your neighbourhood.
Marco reading and listening here has made a huge impact on my learning curve, having top gear hasn't hurt either :D but to be honest a 130-140 pipe gun would have yielded the same results for me as with these fish it isnt about power of your gun but patience patience and more patience!!! Small heads small rear ends(the only two places you want to hit them) I know now to wait for that perfect shot as it is wasting your time otherwise... The power and speed of their runs almost guarantees a tear off no matter how righteous the center shot is, must be head shot or rear enough to be in the tough part of their body.

  • Afternoon delight yesterday

Had an amazing day yesterday afternoon hunting Wahoo, 22 miles offshore I swam with pilot whales, got dive bombed by a hilarious Frigate Bird. Got surrounded by 20lb+ black fin Tuna, Tunny in the 30lb range and ignored them all for my 37lb Wahoo.... Kind of regret not taking my tuna shot but I was already tracking my target.
Everything just turned on for about a half hour feeding, massive dolphin pods feeding, pilot whales and tuna for days with rainbow runners and Wahoo.
If you look really hard and use x-ray vision you may see the three blobs that are pilot whales..lol.

some random freeze frames in videos I shot while drifting in the great blue

One of the best parts was the run home at twilight, sunset to Port over the Monserrat Volcano and to Starboard the most excellent Fullmoon rise, moon beams shooting through orange sunset clouds was memorable. Then the full moon reflection on the water the entire dark run into Port, magic!

  • George, what port do you launch from in Antigua? I have been diving here for over 6 years and have never seen you :confused1:. We got to link up man :thumbsup2:

  • I leave from Browns Bay and English Harbour mostly as that's where my friends keep their boats.
