Diving for Pismo Clams

Lol. I figured Joe meant closest.
Oops. Drinks must not have worn off of me this morning.

Woops ... Dam that chimay

Went out yesterday in search of some fish off of a beach dive and found 2 pismo clams but they where short. Didn't find any others but at least I was able to grab a few. I'm closing in on them.
-
Awesome !!
-
You're looking for these, right?
-
Yup. Way to go on finding them.
-
Did you get the smaller clams to purge all the sand? I got a few the other day and even after an overnight soak there was still sand inside so after boiling I removed them from the shell and hand washed one by one.
-
I let them soak in water for 3 days before they were clean for the small ones
-
Wow Leo, dat nice.:thumbsup2:

Are you soaking them in fresh water?
-
Are you soaking them in fresh water?
No. I am using ocean water and aerating it to keep the clams alive.
-
Thats what i was thinking. I just thought i would ask. I have never messed with clams but im thinking of giving it a shot.
-
It was my first time dealing with purging clams but I am glad I took my time purging them. I dont know if there is a magical number of days I just went by how much junk they spit up. At the end of the 3rd day there was not much gunk at the bottom of the cooler. Ideally you have an aquarium aerator and the clams raised off the bottom of the tank or cooler that your keeping them in. That way the junk gets squirted out and goes to the bottom and the clams don't suck it back up. Good luck clamming.

Alex, if you keep making pets out of them you'll never eat them.:D;)
I see a trickle filter and protein skimmer in your future, closely followed by 10k metal halides sucking up massive amounts of electricity.

HAHAHA. No aqua culturing for me. Not now at least. A buddy of mine is raising tilapia and crawdads and growing his garden off of their waste. Its really a cool process. But I am moving to a spot without as much space and no garden so I don't know if I will be able to even grow the basil seeds my great grandfather brought to the US from Italy through Staten island.

If you propagate a couple, I'll will be happy to plant them in my little Italian herb planter, and will share the harvest with you. I do have Zeus in my back yard.;)
