wow , that is the longest process i have ever seen to make a fixed loop but i guess it is best strongest way .:cool2:
Crimping Spectra

Apparently.some splices will slip and need to be finished with a whipping.
I would expect that to be the case especially with urathane coated cordage.
-
you call that a knot? Now here's a knot.

Palomar not is the other way I tie my spectra.

anyone tried this one:
Perfection (Angler's) Loop | How to tie the Perfection Loop | Fishing Knots
I've read that it should be one of the strongest loop knot... -

I've read that it should be one of the strongest loop knot...Can't use that to attach a spear because you have to pull the loop through the knot.

It's just a matter of having the spear in the right position (should be already in the line) while doing the knot
-
I have tried to make it happen in te past. I would need to see your method

Ok, I'll make some pics with the spear, replicating the animated knot
-
Lets make this a sticky..:yaydance: I would like to tie this one.:D
Cheers, Don

I want to UNTIE that one

Please do when you have a chance.

Here it goes:
I even did it with an american notch spear
I tried to replicate the steps in Perfection (Angler's) Loop | How to tie the Perfection Loop | Fishing Knots
I've never done this knot before and would like to know how good is it...You'll end up with a big loop but you can adjust it's size
when I untied it, I saw that it can me made easier and with the loop of the correct size...

I have seen some guys make their tuna and marlin leaders using that same technique. Its a great knot especially if you don't have tools for crimping. I know it holds well with mono filament as I use it a lot. My only concern is how well will it hold in dyneema and other braid lines.

Thanks a lot!!! That should be very helpful

Would love to know as well the holding strength of that knot with spectra

After rereading this post as I wanted to put some beads on a muzzle bungee/shock cord I am rigging to avoid making knots(knots or bends in spectra/kevlar seriously weaken the breaking strength). The idea is you splice the loops and inside the bungee rather than making a knot for the whipping to brace against you use a bead and crimp behind the bead at the spliced spot, this creates a hard point for the bead to brace against and you have not weakened the line in any way(no point rigging gear for big game and creating weak points!!).
BUT i stray as the point was to get some info/tips on technique of actually doing a crimp onto spectra, read this again as I had missed this knot suggestion and after some reasearch I found out it is touted as being the strongest knot for braided line/spectra/ PERIOD. so just bring it to the forefront, thanks Makoa.

Palomar Knot | How to tie the Palomar Knot | Knotsthanks.
Will try it for using spectra on a spear...
Will have to make a big ass loop or just do it beforehand and figure out a way to do it fro the spear without having to make the loop -
From the picture I don't understand the make up of this bungee. I don't know what you see in it.
