Shark Shield?

  • What are your thoughts on the Freedom 7?

    http://www.sharkshield.com/Content/Products/Product/?url=Content/Products/Default.asp&id=1

If it wasn't for the exorbitant price, would it be worth having this attached to your leg pulsing away as you dive? (this model puts out a pulse that you feel on your skin)

Why not just carry a PH? I'm trying to justify the use of the shark shield over a PH. (besides the whole not having to hurt the shark thing)

    thanks,

    .Larry O M. . .

  • Never for me.... call me old -fashioned but I still like a little sporty in my diving.:D

Spearfishing Store the freediving and spearfishing equipment specialists.

  • what i have found is very neat about the shark shield (from video and not personal experience) is that it would be a great tool for a scuba diver who spearfishes...it is really cool to see curious sharks approach and then turn away from a diver like they hit a wall...it would give me peace of mind if i were a bubble blower who was towing a big stringer....that is too much smell and noise in the water for it not to sound like dinner to a taxman, i feel the shield brings the odds slightly back to even

as for freediving...I think it would be super annoying to have one on

    i like to spear fish

  • I saw them about 2 years ago and the price was a little lower than that . still, a pain in the ass to freedive with it . people have been attacked even with those on I think , I heard something about that , so don't take my word for it. and the las thing is if you think shark , then you get shark . to each his own , i wouldn't spend a dollar on it. now if there was another method llike a cream or something that'll be good to have .

  • i wouldnt worry about the sharks, u should be more scared of the:hi: on here

werent the gay jokes boycotted some time ago?? are they back by popular demand???

LOL. Alan, but it was very funny. Thanks for being able to take a joke.

Back on point about the shark shield, I'm not interested in this product fr personal use. What I'm after is an understanding of why one would use such a product. My best guess so far is just a case of "it's the only thing out there right now".

See what I mean, everything comes back to gay with you, there is nothing gay about sex cream :confused1:

What do those things sell for?

$19.95 per tub, applicator sold separately :D

I think a GWS in a full out attack will not be stopped by a shark shield. I think an inquisitive/undecided shark, or a shark that tends to investigate more before making an attack will be deterred. It would be a PITA to do what we do wearing that device, considering we don't get that many sharks. Nothing like Bahamas at least.

  • i think some guys in the bahamas use it. In those sharky ass waters it would make sense.

What do those things sell for?

    New from $525.00-750.00usd :@

Used "still in box" online deals for $200.00 but the company has a very bad track record of customer service, most reports are about there lack of support for users with older models.

I just like the idea of keeping everything simple. This product is nit a simple meachine it could leak water and die then and the point you need it you're SOL.

But how is it they're moving so mu h product. This is what made me start thinking about them first. They cost ALOT they give off a shock and people still buy them.

Which lead me to ask this question. Is there really something to this Shark Shield...

    The prices don't drop...

Most of the time when products don't do well prices start to drop.

When they first hit the market price was $230.00usd now they're up to $750.00 such things are a very good sign that there product is moving.

  • I'm not sure about that reasoning Larry. Prices usually drop in response to competition and after the initial investment has been recouped, to capitalize on the market for which the product was previously out of reach. Sounds to me like they're still trying to make a buck.

  • Dan , I didn't need the cream to get your ass , so I got a lttle surpriced to see you mention it. maybe it's starting to hurt.

on the other hand I mentioned a cream because I don't recall where i read that they were experimenting with the skin of the shark in some way , like a cream . or something.

Well I can build a roof over peoples head but I guess I don’t make a very good economist.

  • There cheaper than an artificial limb!! seriously though I think they are good to hang off your float that you use while beach diving or your kayak so you can hang there and load your catch on the float/kayak or rest without worrying too much about the tax man coming up to check you out, I have heard they work quite well to distract the shark away, but, if a shark really want's something from you I doubt they would reall stop him, but, hanging it down several feet under your float/kayak would be reassuring for me.
