What kinda fish did I spear?

  • I wanna know one thing, did the cubera bend the RA shaft? :)

It looks too big for you to be holding it up like that.

I always thought cobias and remoras are similar. It occurred to me that young cobias are remoras but this is just a guess. The fact that cobias follow sharks would go along with that idea. Cobias even have that flat spot on the top of their head where the remora has its suction spot.

My buddy manages the cobia cage farm here in Belize. Remoras are the closest relative that cobia have but they are different species.

  • Harry, I forgot to say that you should definitely keep the head and dry it out. Those teeth look insanely cool when you do that. If I had that fish, I'd get it cleaned up and presented.

    That is an incredible picture.

P.S. I've thought about it some more;..... I am Jealous!

  • Davie shot 2 big Ajs but no pictures. I watched Davie go across the top of the water like he was body surfing. haha

:laughing3::laughing3::laughing3: That brought back some great old memories of my first 80 lb AJ ....
    Psycho with a tail...

  • The viz was really poor. I was dropping down on a deep wreck, and I was lucky to find it. I saw a big fish moving below me, and I was close enough for a shot, but I wanted to be sure what it was. The fish started to move away out of range then turned abruptly and came a little closer. I think I landed at his front door, and I was in the way. I took my shot, and I hurt the fish bad. My dyneema got caught on the wreck and was preventing the fish to enter into the wreck. Juan, who was driving the boat at the time, handed me my 2nd gun and my float to clip my main reel gun. Davie was on the surface helping me while i was diving down to retrieve the fish.

    Awesome!!!!!!!! any video?

  • Congratz again Harry. You must have been so stoked when you got your hands on him. That's a fish of a lifetime for most of us. If you see another big one like that again are you going to take it?

I probably would try to take a bigger one but honestly sometimes you don't have so much time to react with these fish. The fish was not wasted at all. Every part of that fish will be eaten. I assure you, just not by me. :D

  • 85ft with a little bit of bottom time waiting for fish to come back in range.

My back was killing me yesterday at work and for a while I didn't know why. :laughing3:
