Broward Beach Conditions

  • hau, can you please give me a link to where you're getting this info.

Glad you asked that as it is a bit off from what I'm seeing:

    SATURDAY
EAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET NEAR SHORE
AND UP TO 2 TO 4 FEET IN THE GULF STREAM. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A
MODERATE CHOP. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

    SATURDAY NIGHT
SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET.
INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

    SUNDAY
SOUTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET.
    INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP.

It does look a bit better for Saturday, from which it looks like we'll be hitting it. Either way, I go with Windguru rather than NOAA or NWS and it seems to be around 3ft for both days.

Does anyone know what the water temperature is out there? Just as I'm looking to dive with 3mm top only. Thanks.

  • Sorry, I just got back from the Keys
Water temp was 76F 4-23 on Dania 1st and 2nd reef when I was last out. That was measured with an alum hand held theromometer.
    The link I have been posting the weather from is the South Beach Boca Raton beach cam;

Let me know if you cannot find it.
    Hope this helps:)

The only reason that today was do-able was because we hadn't been in the water since 4-23 or so.
The beach surf was a little high going out and good and high coming back in. We lost no gear:D
Scott got a porgy and I got a grunt. That is all we saw all day in the crap viz and high seas.
Scott got to try out his new Riffe fins
    Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

  • Here is a fun true story from 5-5-9.
I saw a hog down in the sand at aprox 30f. I waited tilk the hog was acting just right and then I dropped on him. When I shot, I hit him in the belly and the shaft actually came out his belly. The hog started to swim back down onto the sand and it was obviouse that he was dieing. I yelled to the mermaid who swam over to me. I handed her my gun, breathed up and dropped on the hog fish that was just barely alive. I eased up to the hog and grabbed it fast with both hands just as it made one last dying wiggle. I had the hog in both hands and swam to the surface. When I broke the surface with the hog the mermaids eyes were bugged out as all she saw was me swim down and grab the hog with my bare hands. She was not around when I shot the hog and thought that I had just caught the hog with my bare hands. I said to her, "See, you don't even need a speargun to get these stupid hog fish".:thumbsup2:
