Who likes a real dive watch?

  • Is there anyone that stills prefers to dive with a simple time piece rather than a freediving computer? Which watch do you use?

Personally I don't feel the need for a computer. A dive watch can be worn everyday, although I've seen people wearing the Aeris F10 as their daily watch, it not so big so it doesn't look bad actually. I guess I'm just old school and prefer the simple watch. Now I just have a beater St. Moritz / momentum watch for diving. The rotating bezel broke off, I don't know how, but it still works.

  • Im not a fan of "classic watches" I get really focussed on hunting when I dive and I don't pay attention to my watch well enough to remember the start time and other things. I like a really simple digital read out that I can glance at and get all the info. I also really like the log and alarm features on dive computers they're really helpful.

I also don't wear a watch everyday. When I do put on a watch its usually for dressing up. For time and everything else I use my phone.

    Just my .02

  • i haven't worn a watch on dry land for at least 20 years. i have a clock on my phone ,and pager before that . and if i dont have to have my phone on me,i dont need to know the time ether.

  • For me, diving without my computer is like diving without my carbon fins.

It is a matter of safety. I'm always monitoring my surface time, maximum dept and bottom time. I know my limits and feel confident when I don't do any stupid things.

When I don't have it, I am much more conservative and I am not able to relax accordingly.

Once out from the water, I wear a classic stainless steel water proof watch.

  • If somebody would make a modern day digital watch that only included time, stop watch, and a simple depth reading, they'd make a fortune. I'd love to have one of the $300 computers, but at the moment I can't justify spending that much. If there was just a simple watch between $75-$100, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.. and I'm sure many other spearos would do the same, especially the students.

  • Well, I am a bubble blower too. I use a computer and my Citizen dive watch when on scuba. I use my Citizen when freediving. It logs my dives automatically, I can access the information readily and can download it to my computer if i want. I don't really watch it that closely when freediving, as my lungs dictate my bottom time, but it is there if I want it. Having the data stored lets you see how you progress in your diving (i.e. bottom time).

  • I prefer to just dive with a watch....but when get more serious.. I use my first computer for dive time and
    a Titanium Citizen WR200 for party time.:pirate2:

  • Cmon Don, nothing says "I'm here to party" like that Sporasub. :D I've never seen one of those before, that thing is massive.

Yeah Baby:thumbsup2: it's a tank, has large numbers and has never let me down.. It's called a Rapture. I had one before they hit the market in 2002.

  • I really enjoy diving with the Aeris F10. Before I got it I was using a digital wristwatch with a decently large display and a timer etc. it worked but if i wanted to keep track of my bottom time or surface intervals I had to spend way too much time looking at it.

What I love about the aeris is not looking at it. The big readout is nice, but setting up all the timers and depth alarms and just using the beeps to know whats going on has made my diving totally different in an awesome way.

Its a bit big, so I only wear it diving. Plus I don't want to scratch it.

Although, nothing like Dons Sporasub. That thing looks like an old cellphone with wrist strap lol.

  • I like my Aeris F10.

Like others have stated, a simpler watch would be preferred. I could go without all the logging and alarms. The only thing I am concerened with is depth, bottom time and surface time. Temperature is nice too, but not something I really rely on or use all the time.

The computer is nice beause it automatically sets all the functions in motion. I dont have to try and remember what time I went down or forget to set the bezel, etc.

I only wear the computer when I dive, so as far as it being fashionable, doesnt really concern me.

  • First I didn't like the idea and I didn't see a good reason to use any computers.
I felt that I was just fine without it.
    I couldn't be more wrong.... since I used a D4 I cannot go back.
If you are also a scubadiver than in my opinion its a must.
I wear my D6 every day. It's smaller than a G-shock and its comfortable.
Not to mention that it can literally save your life... It's a good investment.
