Tendonitis cures?

  • I hyperextended my left elbow about 2 months ago. I've had a sharp pain where my radius joins the humerus. The pain won't go away and wakes me up when I roll over at night. If I'm in the water and moving I don't notice so much but when I sit still for a while and then move....ouch.
I fear I may have to take 2-3 months of inactivity....meaning dry time....to let this really heal. Unless anyone has a miracle cure they want to share.
I guess I can drive the boat for the boys...that'll be fun:rolleyes1:...watching them put fish on the boat...."clean those, will you Dad"? yeah....

  • Get small disposable cups. I use these
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/…/ref=aw_d_iv_kitchen?is=l
And fill them with water. Then freeze. After any activity. I take one out an peel a littl from the top and hold by the bottom as I really rub hard with Tempe ice cube. Really get in there and rub well. Tendinitis is scar tissue in your tendons and the only way to heal is to move that crap out with manual massage. Ice helps w the inflammation.

Good luck. Take ibuprofen to reduce inflammation

  • The three things that work eventually for me are, 1. Time, 2. sports brace,3. A whiskey before I go to sleep....
    in that order of importance.

  • Assuming you didn't completely tear sonething(MRI, possible surgery),

    Rest

    Ice

    Ibuprofen

Once it heals, then stretching, heat, massage.

  • Massage can't be to expensive down there right? Find the best massage therapist you can to work those sore muscles and tendons out. Then Ice and ibuprofen after (and/or whiskey). Being proactive is priceless .

  • A recent hyper extension injury suggests a strain/partial tear or complete tendon or ligament tear. It needs to heal. That takes rest and possibly immobilization. The ice and ibuprofen help decrease the inflammation (and pain) and improve healing time.

Tendinitis can be acute or usually chronic. It is a result of chronic overuse or repetitive micro trauma. Over time scar tissue may build up in the tendon. Deep tissue massage and stretching help a lot. Injected corticosteroids might help also.

  • Thanks Chuck and everyone. I've made a homemade sling to immobilize it. It's very comfortable when not moving at all.....although it's a pain in the ass.

I injured it by whipping my arm from a curled position to full extension. I forget why......but I noticed the pain when I did it.

I think what has been making it worse, or irritating it and slowing the healing is being in the water.....for hours. Then with no warm up, doing the "muscle up" movement to climb into my boat.

I'm going to rig up some type of ladder so I don't have to put that pushing strain on the elbows. ....after it heals.

  • That´s awful Hank, I am suffering from a "pitcher elbow" myself due to a chin up injury. I was doing chin ups super series two months ago and the dang elbow is now killing me. I have managed to work out again and recovering with a combination of Ice and heat. Get a neoprene elbow support and take brewers yeast daily. That thing has B complex and will help your tendon to recover. By doing this, I can do everything with the exception of carrying heavy loads.

    Hope you recover soon.

  • Post a pic pointing to exactly where the elbow hurts.

if you lift a weight from full extension to full flexion, does it hurt more when lifting with the palm up towards the ceiling or knuckles up?

  • It's right in the joint where the radius meets the humerus. It doesn't hurt to pull, like cocking spearbands. It hurts to do pushups, or muscling up into the boat from the water. Or, if I just let it sit long. Then any movement produces a sharp pain....like stabbing it with a pencil.

  • I periodically hyperextended my elbows playing basketball. Usually a whipping motion coupled with getting hit on the elbow at full extension. Rest is paramount

  • HANK Tendinitis are slow to heal of one to two years, if not chronicles.
the best thing is to massage with the thumb of the opposite hand
pushing hard and endure the pain, so several times a day
not lift weights at arm's length, or make effort as
turns lifting weights in the shape or the way you did the injury.
The important thing is to get the blood from the muscle, tendon and bone cartilage junction.
It is more f u c king break your rotator cuff, are injuries that need rest and endurance, infiltration
is ultimately detrimental to the bones, muscles, tendons and cartilage.
If you take something for the pain is worse because not hurt to strive the damaged part and take
longer to heal or become chronic

  • Hank,

as mentioned, it's a tennis elbow. You likely have a partial tear of the ECRB.

    NSAIDS and Ice.

    Stretches: Rehabilitation for Tennis Elbow

Avoid repetative trauma as best as possible. Twisting motions (screw driver) will aggravate it. When lifting or carrying, do it palm up so that you are using your biceps.

Try a tennis elbow brace. Patients have been happy with the Band-it

BandIT Forearm Elbow Band and BandIT Magnetic Forearm Elbow Band

  • Well, it's been over three months. I wasn't seeing much improvement but I also didn't stop diving. I believe cocking the guns and doing the push up movement onto my boat kept irritating it.

For the last three weeks I haven't gone diving. And I'm seeing improvement. The pain that would wake me up at night because my arm was in a funny position has stopped.

Now the bad news. I think I really need to not dive for another month or so. Jake's telling me to just drive the boat. But we all know how that will turn out......"DUDE !!!.....there's a HUGE school of dogs, right under the boat...and they're not spooking and diving to the bottom "!!! SPLASH !!!!

In I'll go and it will take another 3 months....I"m thinking of taking up knitting. Actually, I should really work on my blues riffs....good time to play guitar.

So you guys have to post a shitload of pics. haha. Thanks for all the tips on how to make this better.
