I did not measure the length but you can see in the pic he was pretty close to the length of a Riffe 2 atm which is 37" If I had to guess he was over 30". The world record YJ is just over 28 lbs so they don't get a whole lot bigger.

Oscar, it's the Standard 5. Used to be called the Baha Plus when I bought it. It's 65 inches long but has the same band stretch as a Wong 55 GR hybrid.
The fish was very good eating. Soft meat. Fillets were about 6 inches thick.

Here is a Gulf Grouper that may be a forum record.

Grouper Black - cmfish 52lb gutted

I was just browsing through this thread and I think I may have the Speardiver record Black Grouper. You'll have to trust me on the weigh in. :D. This one was 54 lbs gutted. It had a 1.5 lb angel fish in it's stomach. And this was like….over four years ago.

It was just one of those times when a big fish was trying to hide behind a fan coral. It was only about 45 feet deep. But I'll take luck over skill any day. :laughing:
