I still remember sitting with my dad watching the Clay/Sonny Liiston fight, my dad hated Clay so of coarse that's who I was cheering for.....well in my mind any way. I kept my mouth shut around my dad.....the nuns must have been mean to him as a kid. ;)

LUIS 'LUMUMBA' ESTABA, was 'oldie' squandered WHEN QUALITY AND MEET THE GLORY TO THE 37 YEARS OF AGE

At 28 he turned pro the ring. As WBC flyweight title, defended the iconic band 11 times. He was an artist in the use of "prohibited weapons", such as the elbows and knees, and stepped smartly and openly to their rivals.

Luis Alberto was born on August 13, 1938 in Sucre, Venezuela, where they were born fighters most monarchs of that country: Alfredo Marcano, Antonio Gómez, Rafael Orono, Antonio Esparragoza, Israel Contreras, and Jesus "Kiki" Rojas. He made his professional debut at 29 years old, on February 28, 1967. He knocked out in less than three minutes to rival Pedro Garcia, in Caracas, Venezuela. On 13 September 1975, knocked on Rafael Lovera 4 rounds to be crowned world champion WBC light fly at the age of 37.

On 29 September 1978, tried to regain the world title again, but fell again defeated by knockout in five rounds against Netrnoi Vorasingh, whom he had previously defeated when he defended his crown in 1977.

Illegal techniques which "Lumumba" managed its forces are not secret affair. Their opponents have complained of receiving footsteps, elbows, headbutts, and knees, but the referees have never seen anything. Challengers finished ground by "the old man". Venezuelan boxer is the most universal has defended a sash, and the most charisma. He concluded his
professional career with 41 wins, 9 losses, 2 draws and 27 knockouts.

  • That's the fish dance I was talking about. Fedor went on to win both fights. Pride was such a treat to watch. Bas Rutten for me is the best commentator.

Fedor's brother Alexander gets little love from newer fans... but this fight has always stood out in my mind as his defining moment.

Both Emelianenko brothers are great example for non-MMA fans of how skill & calm heads prevail over naked aggression and beach muscles. :)
