Roller spearguns

  • Good eye Don! Yes I did. It was a pain to load the bands as there was not enough room for them when unloaded.

    It worked! :)

Nice guys,,, that kid looks like a movie star.:)

  • So over all I'm going to buy a 100 cm rob Allen. If I put A roller on it will it make the gun more powerful, accurate or less powerful or accurate? :confused1::boring1::confused1::confused1:

  • You will make a single band gun a little more complicated to load but, if well designed/installed, more accurate because you will have almost zero recoil.

Power would be pretty much the same as a double band speargun. There are other systems that will be WAY more powerful, like Roisub Demo 3. But that's a different animal...

I'm happy with mine so far.

  • Would it have enough power to get s shot into a WSB? Or kelp yellow tail?

Yes, but it would not be my first choice. The Long Beach Neptune's have a auction coming up soon, but I need to check the dates, there is always a few good guns there, and a very fair $.

  • If you feel comfortable shooting them with a 2 x 16 mm 100 cm railgun, then go for it. You won't get any magic from a 100 cm gun. It is what it is.

BTW, I've shot and landed many (and I mean MANY!) wahoos with a 96 cm single banded Euro gun. Not anymore... You have to hold your breath for too long and fool them really well. :rolleyes1:

  • Got some videos of my RG in action... :rolleyes1:

It came out really nice and it is death-on accurate. :)

Fish in the video are nothing spectacular but you get the idea on how does the gun shots. And they were good table fare... :)

I preffer testing my stuff in real life situations and not in a controlled environment as a pool. At the end of the day, I want it to kill fish, right? ;)

    Hope you enjoy it. ;)

  • Nice work El! I do enjoy seeing the master at work. In the first vid, why pass on the two first fish, is the one you shot better eating?

  • First thank you for sharing the videos Marco.

I think you're too good to demonstrate anything conclusive about the performance of the roller gun, as close as you got to those fish you could've shot them with a pole spear.

An interesting video would be loading that gun to get it ready for action as quickly as you can.

The real question is after a couple more dive trips using the roller and getting your curiosity satisfied, will it become your go to gun?

Yes. Boquipenda is one of the best eating fish around here. ;)

Dan: I knew some schepticals would ask for a "loading video". It's on. Just uploading it. ;)

I've been out twice with this gun. 9 shots, nine targets. So far is my to-go gun. But things change... :rolleyes1::D

  • Nice diving as usual Marco, unusual to see you in shallower water.

Do you really feel that gun shoots as powerfully as the two banded pipe gun you used for so long? After 9 shots I imagine you can make a pretty good judgement.

  • Thanks Don. :)

Not sure Steven. I haven't shot any big fish with it and haven't found clear water yet. It is hard to tell because you almost don't feel any recoil. But it feels great watching the fish in the line without feeling the "kick". :)

When you go out in someone's else boat, you have to adapt to his depths. At the end, when he was tired, I asked to dive in a deeper spot but as he didn't see anything interesting from the fish finder, we just headed back home.

  • I exclusively shot 2 of my rollerguns during Nationals. How fast do you want to reload Dan? I can reload my roller top and bottom as fast as you load 2 bands. I can load just the top faster for small fish. But again, I usually do at least a 1:30 breath up. Plenty of time to reload.

And my 57" roller with your holeless band is a cannon. It shoots all the way thru most of the fish I've shot. Even 15-20' away. Seriously.
