You should take a look at Puerto Rico before making a choice. I spent one week in Hawaii once and lived in Puerto Rico for 7 years. They are very, VERY similar geographically, but PR has the "Latin flavor". :)

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • yeah the surf kept me from getting to the outter reef. I paddled parallel to the drop off trying to find a channel to slip to the outside but the waves are massive.

What Island and side are are you on again? Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

Hawaii? Unreal. I went there for a visit in 1977, before I was going back to .....this is true....Ohio State to finish an agronomy degree.
I was there about 5 days when I decided I was going back to Ohio, sell anything I had and get back to Hawaii. It was kind of hard finding a job at first. But then I lucked into this shrimp farming career and it all worked out.

Not sure how old you are....but man, to be young again and off on another adventure. Go for it dude.

Did you work at OTECH Hank? I remember in the late 80s we use to fish for Salmon in their tanks as kids and pay something for each fish we caught. Now they have Spirulina, Mahi, Lobster, Grouper, Abalone and lots of other stuff in the tanks. Kona Kampachi is getting big there too.

  • Nice! You got a Moana Kali. Those and Kumu are awesome eating. We would take the parrot fish to a Chinese restaurant in Kona and they would deep fry it for us with a sweet and sour sauce. Also very delicious. Although at home steaming parrot fish or Uhu is a lot easier to do right.
