Wong Shafts?

I bought one in 7.5mm in June or July at the blue wild. I've been using it where I usually bend 1 or 2 stainless shafts per trip. The stainless shafts were 9/64 if that has anything to do with it. So far it has not bent even after shooting a 30 lb permit mid body and having it drag down my bouy past 60 ft. That made me a believer. The rust on the tip comes off after some time in the water and I always forget to put wd-40 on it.

9/64 ????? Of course you would be bending them, thats a little over 1/8''!!!:D
Perhaps you meant 9/32'', and 7.5 mm is thicker than 9/32'' ( about 7mm). -
On a more serious note there's all kind of shafts out there, and they all bend sooner or later so buy what you like or your budget allows for your kind of fishing because pretty much there is no perfect shaft, something that's cheap, unbendable and rustproof/ low maintenance. You can't have all three.
If it's bend resistant and cheap is not going to be rustproof/ low maintenance.
If it's rustproof/ low maintenance and bend resistant is not going to be cheap.
If it's cheap and rustproof/ low maintenance is not going to be bend resistant. If you find such a shaft let us know. Just disregard this post I'm just bored.:D

I think in this case you're better off using a slip tip.
Lets compare some prices:
For your gun you must have full size sharkfin tabs which Rob Allen doesn't have. But the RA shaft is of proven "quality" whereas the DW or KJ shafts are not so I'll include the RA shaft for reference.
Rob Allen (coated), 7.5mm, 150cm two mini pins $54.
DW (coated), 7.5mm, 147cm, two full size sharkfin tabs $38
Pursuit Stainless Steel, 9/32 (7mm), 152cm, two full size sharkfin tabs $53 - $1 Less than the RA shaft, $15 more than the rusting DW shaft.so send me two 63 inch, 7 mm, single barb. high shark fins, Pursuits, please. Can you get them here in time so I can open them Saturday morning?

I like rusty spring steel shats. I don't want them for a beauty parade. Just to kill fish.
By the way, you can get them for 40 something bucks if you do your home work.

Dan should carry SA shafts

Yep! I spend like 45$ every 4-5 month in a new shaft. He's not going to make a living out of it, but I would be a more regular customer.... :rolleyes1:

We need to find him a SA distributor
Marco,
I have yet to bend a 7.5mm Rob Allen shaft. Granted, most of the fish i shoot are usually hurt a lot so they cant run to their full potential. I don't think i have shot a fish in the tail in a long time.

You gotta be careful with those rusty shafts. At least give the fish a tetanus shot before you eat it.

Was it a Rob allen, rabitech, Wong/Mako, Orca, or freedivers shaft? What is the diameter of shaft?
Maybe I've been lucky.

Yes, VERY lucky!

Hmm, i guess you never know.... I've shot fish in the 10-20lb range (yellow jacks, cudas, grouper) with a 6.6mm ra shaft i shoot with my 110. Granted they are mostly head shots but i have yet to bend it.

I have also had great luck with my RA shafts. My mako is holding up well too. I think it takes a tiny but of work, not much but clean them and an occasional wipe w three and one oil

I also use 3 in oil for SA shafts. Works great and i never get rust.

What I do with mines is to spray some enamel paint (cheapest one) between dives to prevent the shafts to mess all my house. But this is after about 5-6 mothns of use. It works very well and goes away after some minutes in the water.
