Injured my foot, no diving for a while

  • I've been dry for about 2 months, the last month spent on preparing my boat. Now that it's finally ready and I'm just waiting for good weather there's yet another delay. I hurt my right foot yesterday, may have broken my big toe. I can barely walk/put weight on that foot, never mind put on a fin. So the waiting continues. Just letting you guys know who were expecting to go diving with me. I figure at least two weeks before I get an idea of how long it will take to heal.

  • RICE that shit

    Rest
    Ice
    Compression
    Elevation

I have been hurt in more ways from years of skateboarding, lacrosse and football...RICE heals all wounds

so sorry to hear about the injury buddy, I know you must be chomping at the bit to get out there

  • Shiit, that sounds awful. Good news is, like my old sensei used to say (Susumu Umezawa) when that toe heals up it will be stronger than ever. Just be patient and watch a lot of spearfishing and UFC vids.

  • Broken big toes suck, when you get back in the water use a fin on the injured food that has a soft
flexible blade. A least your young Dan, broken shite on my bod now takes twice as long to heal.
I've broke the big toe on my right foot 4 times. Run the boat for your friends until you heal, at least
you not dealing with a badly torn hamstring.
    Get well buddy.

    All the best, Don

  • that sucks dan:( sorry to hear.wednesday was looking good to go out with you.
my advice would be to let that thing heal.

I might dive out of homestead wed. keep us posted on the healing.

good advice LB, advil is a disinflammatory in can help with the pain and swelling, just dont mix it with alcohol, you will shit out your liver.

  • one other thing Dan... the big toe, or Hallux, is largely responsible for initial force in jumping/ sprinting and has a lot to do with balance...as you are healing be mindful that your balance is not as good without a healthy big toe...and as you really get better, take it slow with srpinting or jumping.

  • Dan---I just got back online and read about your injury.
Sorry that you got hurt and wishing you a rapid and full recovery from your injury.
That said and reviewing your boat pictures I saw a hand throttle on your new vessel:D
Get well soon my friend :toast:

  • Get well soon Dan and take care of that toe since it always seem that every time you get hurt you keep bangin yourself in the same area that's hurt.

  • Easy to take toes for granted until you break one....broke one during a x-country race in my teens. Middle toe even and I was out for the season. I could've been a contender !!!

Take it easy, Dan, and let nature run it's course, brother.

  • Funny thing is I've done the exact same thing grappling to the toe on the left foot about 15 years ago. It never healed perfectly and hurts from time to time, sometimes when the weather is cold and humid. Now I can look forward to having two of those for the time I have left on this earth. It's interesting how perspective changes when you simply can't walk, and due to such a small thing. It's the second day today and I'm hoping it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Maybe it's the Tylenol 3's..

Don, how did you tear your hamstring?

  • Yeah I know what you mean. I broke my foot kicking the heavy bag,the night before I was moving into my new house. I was pretty useless. Had some friends that came over to help with the move really helped, while I sat on the couch playing Xbox:D.

Eight years ago I rode a mountain bike into the wall of a 10' deep hole at speed, tried to use my right leg to stop the impact. I was out of the water for 2 months, (pure hell).

I had to use two different blades (one painted to match) for over a year.I swam and drug the injured leg
until I developed new muscle. I do not dive past 75' in cold water now but that's OK.

    Cheers, Don
