sdeisen little fish reports

  • THat's awesome! One of these years I'm gonna make it out that way to hunt flooded timber Mallards. I need to hit up the skeet range this fall too

  • Hatteras is right, Stuttgart AR is regarded as the duck hunting capitol of the world. If you can swing it, duck hunting there can be absolutely amazing and should be on every duck hunter's bucket list. You may go through multiple boxes of shells each day easy.

  • Got invited on a boat this weekend with a few other guys back in FL so I cruised over after work on Friday.
Apparently this is the weekend red snapper opens in the gulf, in state waters. I don't really know the details I was just along to shoot fish :)

I think I kind of got real fond of diving the gulf, had some amazing encounters. Big hammerhead sharks, bull sharks, Cobia, schools of spanish and cero macks that I wouldn't be surprised if a record was mixed in somewhere. All around just tons of life. Got all kinds of action on the go pro but I'm too lazy to edit it all in a timely fashion. I got my limit of red snapper, one of which my buddy saved by shooting a Cobia off a bull that followed me and my snapper up.

Almost lost my gun or had an extended dive with a good size king.

Free diving red snapper? I've seen them in the market here and the guys catching say they're like…300 feet deep. I fished for them in Hawaii at night and that was how deep we fished. Have you recently taken a free diving course or what? :@
Unreal. Let's hear the story on them.

haha no hank I'd like to tell you they were deeper than 100' but they weren't quite. Pretty easy to shoot honestly, you don't have to play any exhausting mind games like muttons and other snappers. Just make it down to them and be able to wait. I saw a couple BIG MOMMAS that were smarter though. Next time.

    I'll upload the videos soon

  • I never liked the idea of belt reels but there may be one in my future

same with me. having a reel attached to my belt, then to my gun doesnt sit well with me, especially around oil rigs. had a similar situation this year though, almost lost the MACO2 CO2 gun. too much water, not enough line. Wound up throwing the gun over a beam, it was still there when i returned. (Thank God)

I used to us a belt reel with a small popper float when I first started diving in Tahiti.... I just copied the divers I was diving with at the time. (H,Dessault and Jean Baptiste Esclapez) ;)
Yes they can be dangerous as with most things one ties to our body's.

  • Nice King but close call though! How deep were you when you shot it?

Thanks khalel. I am really not sure. I'm open to guesses based on the video. I'm pretty sure that spot was a bit over 100' to the bottom. Waters not the clearest but you can see that the bottom is all sand right before the fish gets shot.

  • Agreed , that's where my skepticism lies

I jammed one solid with sand, but I just un-clipped the rubber belt and popped the little float. I still use it some times it's just a added tool.

So you have one of those float bags with a little co2 container and pull tab connected the the belt, along with the belt reel? thats a great idea. Unhook the belt with one hand and pull the tab with the other.
